From Our Pastor... Celebrating Parishioners Generosity. The wonderful success of Oktoberfest last weekend demonstrates the great generosity of our parishioners and the bountiful graces from God. Our Poor Clare Nuns always pray daily for its success and favorable weather and once again we witnessed the power of their prayers! Their spiritual boost and the hard work of so many parishioners came together beautifully! The whole Oktoberfest event continues to be a blessing to the larger community as we give witness to the Gospel of hospitality and joy! We are still tallying receipts before we will have a final profit figure to share with you. The Oktoberfest proceeds are a great blessing to our Capital Development Fund for the debt of our church building. As always, there are an unlimited number of people to thank, including all of you who worked behind the scenes either baking, setting up, cleaning up, and so many others. Our parish is indebted to our chairperson, Ryan Luechtefeld and the other lead team members: Carl Lurk, Alicia Luechtefeld, Bill and Ann Millikin Christi Maggi, Tara and Dan Ashbaker, Darrell Raynor Dawn Lurk, Dennis Collins, Dennis Holdener Ellen, Don and Lanie Gravlin, Eric Bauder Kathy and Jeff Sjoquist, Jane Dotson, John and Joanie Burke Leslie Goldberg, Mark Huller, Meg Meade and Randy Hardtner Nick and Peggy Snyder, Pat Kinsella, Bruce Rackers Roy Rogge, Ruth Holdener, Rita Zinn, Shirley Seipp Tom Knaust, Tommy Bow, Joanna Theismann Dave Richey and Pat Jurgensmeyer The 5K run/walk, led by Alicia Luechtefeld and her team, had another great success that had runners of all ages. Contact Mary at 416-1616 Consecration to Jesus through Mary Nov. 5 Dec. 8 The surest, easiest, shortest and most perfect means to becoming a saint. (St. Louis de Montfort) Want to transform your work, your marriage, your family, and your life, but don t have time? Looking for the quickest, surest, and easiest way to holiness, but don t know where to begin? In our hectic day and time, St. Pope John Paul II and Blessed Mother Teresa knew that the quickest way to be transformed is through a relationship with Our Blessed Mother, Mary. Join us on November 5 as we begin a 33 day preparation for Marian Consecration. Optional weekly meetings will be held on Thursday evenings from Oct 29 Dec. 10 from 7 8:15. Please pick up a flyer on the Consecration to Jesus through Mary from the round table in the Gathering Space this weekend. Informational meeting Oct 10/11 after each Mass. Eucharistic Adoration This Weekend Sunday, October 4 after 10:30 Mass until 11:40 a.m. Monday, October 5 Followed by Benediction and Mass We have a special need for people to commit to the nighttime hours, especially between 2 and 4 a.m. If you can commit to a holy hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament during these 24 hours, please sign up on the sheets on the round table in the Gathering Space. There is no doubt that a flood of graces will descend upon your family and the world if more souls would become docile pupils of adoration. St. Pope John XXIII Our Diocese prepares for The Year of Mercy By welcoming The Relic of the Body of St. Maria Goretti The Little Saint of Great Mercy Monday, October 19 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. At the Cathedral of Saint Peter Belleville, Illinois Pope Francis has asked that the relics of St. Maria Goretti, the youngest saint ever canonized by the Church, come to the United States as a witness of MERCY. Many Catholics know the story of young Maria s purity, but this Pilgrimage emphasizes her practice of mercy: On her deathbed, she forgave her attacker and her forgiveness led to his conversion. A visit to the Pilgrimage of Mercy is free. This is an experience of prayer and faith that millions of pilgrims in Italy have experienced over the decades. Now the people of Southern Illinois have the opportunity to make the Pilgrimage here! For more info, go to mariagoretti.com.
