04-11-2016 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 8, 2016 FOR MORE INFORMATION: OFFICE OF COMMUNICATION 603-669-3100, EXT. 185 BISHOP LIBASCI S COMMENT ON POPE FRANCIS APOSTOLIC EXHORTATION AMORIS LAETITIA After the release of Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis Apostolic Exhortation on the family, the Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, made the following statement: Coming on the heels of the two recent Synods of Bishops, Pope Francis Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia ( The Joy of Love ) issues a challenge to all Catholics: it calls us all to better appreciate the gift of married love, to more attentively listen to those who feel wounded, to accompany them with compassion, not judgment, and to enter into the reality of other people s lives and to know the power of tenderness (308). The Church feels the challenge of a changing culture and must reassess its efforts in helping those who, for example, are divorced and remarried to know that they are welcome. Sometimes what the Church actually teaches and why it holds these teachings is not communicated as effectively as others perceptions of whom and what we are about. That is exactly why Pope Francis calls upon us to make a bold effort: so that all Catholics indeed all people of good will will see the effort that the Church is making to be close to them, regardless of what their situation might be or how alienated from the Church they may feel. Pope Francis wants us to look to the families who through their faith have found a deeper love, even in the midst of sacrifice and difficulty. Through their witness the Church is enriched and can better reach out to those who are in need. So many in our diocese are already engaged in many activities that point toward this goal. In addition to sacramental and liturgical celebrations in parishes, they join faith formation programs for children and adults in a variety of formats, including in Catholic schools throughout the state. Engaged and married couples find support for their journeys though programs like Engaged Encounter and Marriage Enrichment Circles. And many who are experiencing problems in their marriage have found support through, for example, the Retrouvaille program, and those sacraments of healing that offer new beginnings. In the coming months the Diocese of Manchester will be making a concerted effort to expand and strengthen these initiatives, to help married couples deepen their relationship with each other and with God, to help parents build up and develop their parenting skills, and to help families strengthen their relationship across generations and to share their time, talent and treasure with those in need and the most vulnerable, so that all can see more clearly and feel more deeply The Joy of Love through closer union with Jesus Christ. Today I am asking every Catholic in our diocese to join with me in making Pope Francis vision a reality. Amoris Laetitia is not some dry theoretical text without any connection to people s very real problems. I hope that you will read it, slowly and deliberately, and prayerfully consider how you can answer the Holy Father s call to be a witness to the Father s mercy in our world, and to have a wider impact on the larger culture. # # # The Diocese of Manchester is the Roman Catholic Church in New Hampshire, serving the needs of more than 264,000 Catholics. 04-04-2016 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 5, 2016 FOR MORE INFORMATION: OFFICE OF COMMUNICATION 603-669-3100, EXT. 185 DIOCESE TO CELEBRATE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS ON SUNDAY, APRIL 17 (MANCHESTER, NH) - On Sunday, April 17, 2016, the Church will celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. The purpose of the Day is to publicly fulfill the Lord s instruction to pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest. (Mt 9:38, Lk 10:2). A vocation is what God calls a person to do with his or her life. Some are called to serve as priests or religious, some to marriage and family life, and some to the single life. While appreciating all vocations, on this day the Church lifts up in prayer vocations to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the religious life in all its forms (male and female, contemplative and apostolic), to societies of apostolic life, to secular institutes in their diversity of services and membership, and to the missionary life. The World Day of Prayer for Vocations falls on what is traditionally known as Good Shepherd Sunday, said the Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester. On this day, the Church invites us to honor the vocations of those who have dedicated their lives to God through the vocation of priesthood, diaconate, and consecrated life. But ultimately, a vocation is not defined by doing but rather by being. We are called to live our lives in a generous response to the One who gave us life. Therefore I ask that you join with me in prayer that those who are discerning their life s vocation listen to the voice of God to guide them. Reverend Jason Y. Jalbert, director of the Office of Vocations for the Diocese of Manchester, said, Our Church needs committed men and women who believe that their call to single, married, ordained or consecrated life is from God, and we stand ready to support and encourage each response of vocation. I encourage any young man or woman who has questions about his or her own vocation to speak to their parish priest, since he can give some helpful advice. 2016 marks the 53 nd anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. For more information about the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Year of Consecrated Life, or about your own vocation, please visit: www.catholicnh.org/vocations. http://www.catholicnh.org/about/news/news-releases/world-day-prayer-vocations/ # # # The Diocese of Manchester is the Roman Catholic Church in New Hampshire, serving the needs of more than 264,000 Catholics. State Church Director Report 04-04-2016 CHURCH DIRECTOR: DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Be holy because I am holy. (1 Peter 1:16) Divine Mercy Sunday inspires us to remember our call to holiness. As Catholics we are called to a life in union with others responding to Christ s call to compassion, forgiveness, humility, faith, trust, charity and evangelization. The message of The Divine Mercy is that God loves us and wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. In doing so, all will come to share His joy. We need to ask for His mercy through prayer and repentance, be merciful to others by extending our love and forgiveness and completely trust in Jesus. Divine Mercy Sunday inspires us to remember but, our call to holiness which requires faith and compassion is a daily commitment of placing our trust in Jesus and serving others. Trust in Jesus is the essence of the message of mercy. When we go to a public fountain to draw water, we can draw water from it as long as we have a container of some kind to put the water in. If our container is small, we can only bring back a little water; if it s large, we can bring back a lot. Anyone with a container can draw water from the fountain. The water is there for us, and no one is excluded. All we need is a container. It is the same with God s mercy. In repeated revelations to St. Faustina, Our Savior makes it clear that the fountain is His Heart, the water is His mercy, and the container is trust. O blood and water, which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in you! Rush frequently to the fountain of God s mercy and be confident that you are on the path to holiness. Report from State Secretary Glenn Camley 03-28-2016 Worthy Grand Knights and Council Financial Secretaries, We are starting to run into some setbacks with payments that have been sent and received for your Council's per-capita and payment for insurance to be carried through our provider. The instructions indicate that you need to "make out a check payable to NH State Council in the amount of $$$ and make a note on the memo line PER CAPITA". Furthermore, in step two, it indicates "Please make out a check payable to NH State Council for this amount and make a note on the memo line: Liability Insurance Cat. 23 in reference to the liability insurance policy. These NEED to be TWO SEPARATE CHECKS, NOT ONE! The deadline for the submission of Per Capita and Insurance payments is April 3, 2016. Our financial and record keeping practices as well as policies that need to be followed for our Accounting Firm, need to follow these requirements. Any checks written out for a total amount of both items on one check, will be returned to the Council's for corrections and will delay the NH State Council in receiving your information in a timely manner. This could include not having your Council covered with insurance for Council or other events, as well as scenarios where your Council's Delegates will not be registered to vote at this year s State Convention. Please assist us with this and don't delay on getting these payments to us in a timely manner, as well as correcting those which are being sent back to some Council's for corrections. Thanks so much in advance for your support with this important area of concern. Glenn P. Camley State Secretary Knights of Columbus New Hampshire State Council State Family Director Report 04-11-2016 Worthy Grand Knights, Delegates and all: It is now April and the convention is at the end of the month. Worthy Grand Knights and Delegates, when I ask at the convention for you to raise your hand if your council had given out the Family of the month award for April. Wouldn t you feel a lot better if you had raised your hand and recognized as a council that cares for its families then be one of the councils that are not recognizing their families? Let us all try to help make the State of NH recognized at the Supreme Council, for the State that has 100% of its councils showing respect and honor to the families in their communities. We can do it together. We can accomplish this by appointing a committee to pick one family a month for the award and sending a copy to Supreme, The State Deputy, The District Deputy and to myself Paul Vien at paul.508 @aol.com, When you e Page 9 of 17
