Friday, October 7, 6, 2016 2017 The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has asked for a nationwide collection on the weekend of September 30-October 1 to assist the victims of Hurricane Irma. Cleveland s new bishop, Nelson Perez, writes that These funds will be used in the afflicted areas to support humanitarian aid. I am aware that this call comes on the heels of the emergency collection for Hurricane Harvey, but the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Irma compels us to respond. So there will be a second collection next weekend at St Charles to assist those affected by Hurricane Irma. St Charles Ladies Guild is a veteran parish organization. The good ladies of our Guild enjoy one another s friendship and provide a variety of interesting activities for themselves and for the parish. Their fund-raising endeavors directly benefit St Charles. Over the years, the Ladies Guild has provided the financial help for many parish projects, several that have helped us to improve our worship facilities; for instance, the Guild provided the marble for our church sanctuary floor; they repaired and made useable our three tower bells (the bells names are Maria, Josephus, and Carolus Latin for Mary, Joseph, and Charles!), the Guild purchased our carillon, and two years ago they gave us those beautiful upholstered chairs and kneelers for Merici Chapel. And the list could go on After talking it over with the Ladies, we agreed that the Guild s latest gift, in 2017, would pay for the renovation of the two reconciliation rooms (confessionals) just right of the Sorrowful Mother Shrine in church (in the old baptistery area). The original 1955 single-pane glass/metal frame windows were changed out to insulated glass, a drop ceiling installed, the fluorescent lighting was replaced with recessed lighting, new wallcovering was hung, heating controls were added, the convectors were painted and new--very comfortable--chairs added. Thank you as well to parishioners Dan and Sandy Frederick, of D and R Carpet, for the donation of the beautiful new carpeting in those confessionals. I mentioned this project once before and when hearing about it--the sons of the late long-time and faithful parishioners, Walter and Wanda Sobieski, made a memorial donation in their parents names. Thanks to the Sobieski sons gift, we also purchased some art glass for the windows in those two confessionals. The reconciliation rooms renovation project is now complete as the art glass was installed last Wednesday. Father Lou Thomas and Father Ryan Mann have already moved into those state-ofthe-art new confessionals. So here s many thanks to the Guild, the Fredericks, and the Sobieskis for making this much-needed project a reality. A few reminders: newly engaged couples, please contact the priest of your choice and get a confirmed church date for your wedding BEFORE booking a hall, bands, etc. Got a suggestion or an observation you would like to share with Parish Council? Jot those ideas down and leave them in the Suggestion Box in the church lobby. Make it a habit to check the monitor screens in the church lobbies for up-to-date news and various details about parish programs.

Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 24, 2017 2017 PUBLIC ROSARY CRUSADE America Needs Fatima has had a Public Rosary Crusade across the country for 10 years. There were over 2,000 simultaneous rallies held the first year and have increased steadily to over 16,000 last year. This year, the goal is 20,000 rallies that will all begin at 12:00 noon. Our nation is in great need of public prayer, repentance and conversion. In this historic year of the Fatima Centennial (1917-2017), we ask God to save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother. At the end of World War II, Communist Soviet troops occupied Vienna, Austria. They refused to leave. After massive public Rosary processions, the Communist invaders packed up and left. Large-scale public rosaries were likewise credited for foiling a Communist takeover in Brazil in 1964. If the rosary saved these countries, it can save America. PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYING FOR OUR NATION ON OCTOBER 14, 2017 AT 12:00 NOON. Two Rallies will be taking place in Parma: IN FRONT OF ST. COLUMBKILLE CHURCH, 6740 Broadview Road. Please contact Isabel (216) 524-3163 for more information. SAVE ACME STORE RECEIPTS Saint Charles School will once gain be participating in the Acme Community Cash Back Program beginning August 2017 through January 2018. Her talks are on CD s which are distributed by Catholic Way Bible Study (www.cwbs.org). The series which began Tuesday, September 19 th, is held in the Parish Center from 1:00 until 3:00pm.
