FROM THE PASTOR Dear Parishioners, As we get towards the end of the liturgical year, our Mass readings focus more and more on the end times. Today s gospel looks at the resurrection of the body. Marriage is a beautiful sacrament, but it ultimately is an earthly institution. There is no more need for marriage in Heaven as we will love everyone equally. We shall live like the angels worshiping and praising God for all eternity. Speaking of the resurrection, the Vatican put out an instruction regarding cremation. The preference is for full body burial to point towards the resurrection of the body. However, cremation is allowed as long as it is not done to say that there is no resurrection. The cremains (ashes) must be buried in a cemetery and may not be used in any form or fashion or spread about wherever one wants. This will help to keep their memory alive and prayed for by visitors to the cemetery. Don t forget to go vote on Tuesday. A few weeks ago I attended the ACTS retreat. It is an offshoot of the Cursillo Movement. The main difference is that it is a parish based retreat so it helps to build community even more in the parish. We have 4 retreats planned for the parishes of St. Joseph, Queen of All Saints and Sacred Heart. There will be more information coming in the weeks ahead. St. Anthony Church in Eunice will be missioning us for the first few retreats until we can fully staff them ourselves. I think it will be a great thing for Ville Platte. Politicians are reminded that no campaign materials are allowed on church property or on cars of our parishioners while at church. Thanks for your cooperation. We are having donuts and juice after the 7:00am & 10:00am Masses in the Meeting Room. Please come join the fellowship. FEMA has extended the sign up for flood help to November 14th. Also there is a crisis counseling 24 hour hotline free for flood victims if needed, call 866-310-7977. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Thomas Voorhies Fr. Tom s Joke of the Week A catechist was discussing the Ten Commandments with her six-year-olds. After explaining the commandment to honor thy father and thy mother, she asked, Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters? Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, Thou shall not kill.

Procession with Blessed Sacrament Dear faithful of Sacred Heart Parish, On November 20, 2016 we will have a procession with the Blessed Sacrament to honor our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe. It is truly fitting for a such a solemn feast, for we as Catholic believe whole heartedly that our Lord is truly present in the Holy Eucharist, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Immediately following the 10:00am Mass, we will process from the Church onto Pine St., turn right onto Trojan Lane in front of the high school then right back into the Church for final benediction. Those who are unable to walk are invited to stay around and join us for the Benediction upon our return to the Church. For the sake of safety, we ask that those not processing to please not leave until after the procession has completely exited the Church. In the case of bad weather, we do have a plan B. Plan B: the celebrant will process from the altar, around the interior of the Church and back to altar to conclude with final Benediction. We hope that you will be able to join us for this solemn event. If you are unable o be with us, we ask that you please pray for good weather to make this possible. With all that has been and is currently going on in our world and society, this is a perfect opportunity for us to pray for our community, our nation, and our world and to place all into the hands of our Lord and King of the Universe, that He will have mercy on our society and transform it by His saving power. May Christ our King continue to bless you and yours abundantly, and please pray for us as we will for you. Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Taj Glodd
