Page 3-565 Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Hainesport, New Jersey A Message from the Padre T here are two stories that unfold in our Gospel today. First the story about the synagogue official named Jairus, who pleaded Jesus on behalf of his dying daughter, and the story of the woman afflicted with the hemorrhage who suffered for 12 continuous years. Both of these stories have different responses to different situations. The questions we need to ask ourselves is, How do we respond in situations like this. Do we respond in faith or do we seek other means? Yes, today as in the past, we face the challenges of answering question about suffering and death. The Church speaks again and again of the word and love of God expressed in Jesus resurrection and promise of eternal life. To some, this is not always a word of comfort but it is always a word of hope, for it asserts that suffering is not the ultimate experience of our lives, but it is the promise of eternal life with Christ. My dear friends, we have to remember that there is no automatic guarantee of a cure in this life just because we have great faith, because sometimes Christ heals our pain by offering us eternal rest. Remember Lazarus was resurrected only to face the prospect of getting sick and dying all over again. Therefore, as Christians, we should believe in the healing power of Christ, but at the same time we should remember that our life here on earth is transitory and that our final destination is in Christ s promise of eternal life. Which means that whatever healing we have on this earth is a foretaste of what is coming, but our true healing is found when we finally see Christ face to face. Fr. THE Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 4-565 The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 5: 21-43 The first line of our first reading, from the book of Wisdom, sets the tone for the Liturgy of the Word today: God did not make death. In the Gospel Jesus heals a woman with an incurable illness and raises Jairus daughter to life. We can listen to all of today s readings for passages that point to God s preference for life and reflect on how our faith can grow in response. READINGS FOR THE WEEK Sunday: Wis 1: 13-15; 2: 23-24, 2 Cor 8: 7, 9, 13-15 Mk 5: 21-43, or 5: 21-24, 35b-43 Monday: Acts 12: 1-11, 2 Tm 4: 6-8, 17-18 Mt 16: 13-19 Tuesday: Gn 19: 15-29, Mt 8: 23-27 Wednesday: Gn 21: 5, 8-20a, Mt 8: 28-34 Thursday: Gn 22: 1b-19, Mt 9: 1-8 Friday: Eph 2: 19-22, Jn 20: 24-29 Saturday: Gn 27: 1-5, 15-29, Mt 9: 14-17 The Holy Father s Prayer Intentions June 2015 Universal: Immigrants and refugees - That immigrants and refugees may find welcome and respect in the countries to which they come. For Evangelization: Vocations - That the personal encounter with Jesus may arouse in many young people the desire to offer their own lives in priesthood or consecrated life. Praised be the God of All Creation In 1226, one of the Catholic Church s most beloved saints authored a poem that has come to be know as the Canticle for All Creation. On June 18, seven hundred and eighty years later, Pope Francis used that poem as the backdrop for his long awaited encyclical on the environment and creation. Pope Francis writes, The world is a joyful mystery to be contemplated with gladness and praise. You can read the complete encyclical from Pope Francis by going to the following website: http://w2.vatican.va/content/ f r a n c e s c o / e n / e n c y c l i c a l s / d o c u m e n t s / p a p a - francesco_20150524_enciclica-laudato-si.html.
