COMMUNITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Community s July 2017 LINK Sundays 8:30 a.m. - Traditional Worship in the Chapel 9:15 a.m. - Coffee Fellowship in C L Hilson Hall 9:30 a.m. - Sunday School and Bible Study 10:30 a.m. - Blended Worship in the Sanctuary Pastor Dan Baker The Holy Spirit, Ministry Of The Kingdom Scripture: Mark 1:14-15 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of d, (v.15) and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of d is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel. The Holy Spirit, Ministry of the Kingdom. Jesus' ministry did not begin until He received His "anointing" as Messiah- the empowering that came through the descent of the Holy Spirit upon Him. Though conceived and born by the Spirit's power (Luke 1:35) and sinless His whole lifetime (John 8:46). He did not attempt ministry without the Spirit's power. He insisted John baptize Him, not for repentance, but because he knew the Holy Spirit would come upon Him at that time (Matthew 3:13-17). From that time, He is led of the Spirit and moves into ministry - declaring the presence of d's kingdom and wonders (Luke 4:14-15;4:23-25). This pathway points each believer to the need for power, if kingdom ministry is to be advanced through us - His church. Like Him, we, too, are "born of the Spirit" (John 3:5-6).Though obviously, our spiritual birth is not as His biological Virgin Birth, the point remains. Spiritual rebirth saves, but spiritual enduement is needed for ministering in kingdom power. Similarly, our justification in Christ - being declared sinless (2 Cor. 5:21) - does not qualify for kingdom power in ministry. In His incarnation Jesus' person and perfection exceeded ours in every way, yet Jesus still acknowledged the need for His own receiving of the power of the Holy Spirit to pursue His ministry. What more needs to be said? Let each of us personally hear His command: "Receive the Holy Spirit!" (John 20:22). Teaching taken from the New King James Bible. LADIES ON A MISSION Our group met on Wednesday, June 7, for fellowship, snacks and of course mission work! We put together 10 hygiene packs for Pastor Dan. He had stated that he sometimes has folks stop by his office who are in need of such hygiene basics. He will let us know when he needs additional packs. 17 filled purses were dropped off with Patsy Roberts at the Fort Pierce Police Department. Patsy will see that the purses find their way to women in need at SafeSpace. More Pew Bears were readied for their debut into the Sanctuary. Please take a Pew Bear home if you or someone you know needs a little reminder of d s loving presence. We continue to work on items for the Shriner s Children s Hospital. Bears, dogs, fleece throws and small quilts will put smiles on little faces! Winn Dixie now has blue bags! We think this is pretty exciting as the blue bags make very colorful additions to our mats for the homeless. More mats are almost finished and should be ready for delivery shortly. We are always hopeful for new additions to our group. Just a reminder that we will be meeting only the first Wednesday during the months of July and August. Thank you and d Bless! Book Buddy Ministry Oh, magic hour, when a child first knows she can read printed words. Betty Smith On June 13 th the $50.00 cash donations that were received in February were used to help purchase twenty books from Books-A-Million in Vero Beach. GOSPEL GARDENER See if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you overflowing blessings. Malachi 3:10 b It s July. Right in the middle of summer. Getting ready for Summer Camp and Vacation Bible School for the youth. I m so happy to announce our vegetable garden is flourishing. So many plants and I can see the green beans hanging on the plants. It s so exciting. This truly is a wonderful spot for the veggie garden. Thank you Lord for sending rain for these hardy plants. When I arrived at the garden Saturday morning, the Garden Patrol doves welcomed me. There were three of them and they seemed so excited to see me. The garden is so colorful. The plants are loving the rain. I saw the little Moss Rose over by the garden closet. It seems very happy in its little corner. I trimmed back some of the Yellow Beach Daisy. What a lovely hearty plant. It brings so much color to the garden. Our little crotons that we trimmed back presenting out new sprouts and looking very promising. We have been able to give them a new outlook on life. Today I found the little ceramic turtle s head. I ve been looking for it for several weeks. So I m getting it glued back together and will put it back in the garden. It is fun to place it in different areas of the garden. Keep your eye out for it. One of the preschool classes created a little garden area right outside their class room. They planted some seeds and are anxiously watching and watering this garden. What a thrill when it begins to grown. I thank d for this garden. The Firebushes are covered with red flowers. It s easy to see why it s called Firebush. We re getting the weeding under control. But as I dump the debris in the dumpster, the weeds yell out We ll be back!. Come and look at our gardens. You are welcome. d Bless, Jean Harvey Points to Ponder - If you give a weed and inch, it will take over a yard. LEARN TO READ In order to have true riches, the motive of your heart must be to bless others and establish d's covenant. (d's Creative Power by Charles Capp.) Nothing outlives the gifts we give to others. LEARN TO READ is a loving, giving ministry. Thank you for your continued support and prayers. Cheryl Milam FLORIDA UM CHILDREN S HOME Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart. Col 3:15 a In a world that seems to have gone crazy, it is refreshing to know that our Noisy Bucket Coins the last Sunday of each month is making a difference, allowing children to feel safe and loved. The following is from an alumnus of the Children's Home: "I lived in the Children's Home as a teen. This was the best group home I had ever lived in. My house parents were the best. Between my time spent on Campus and the friends I made, my teen years ended up being wonderful. Thank you for turning my dark, lonely life into a bright light in my heart." Wow, what a testimony to the power of d. Thank you all for your continued support of this ministry. Cheryl Milam

Each year on July 4th, also known as Independence Day, Americans celebrate this historic event. Look online or in local newspapers for patriotic ways to celebrate this freedom.
