The flowers are given to the Glory of God and in honor of all the many volunteers who give their time, energy and gifts to the work and mission of Tuckahoe. Pastoral Care Concerns: Hospitalized or recovering: Brad Burnett, Fran Edwards, Harriette Kent, Jackie Meyers and Shirley Wilson Our Christian sympathies and prayers for God s comfort are extended to: Alice Gilleece on the death of her youngest son, Billy, on October 1st. Jim Leiby and his family on the death of his daughter, Susan Leiby Mitchell, on October 7 th. A memorial service for Susan will be held at Tuckahoe on Thursday, October 19 th at 2:00 p.m. Session has called a Congregational Meeting for this morning, immediately following worship, for the purpose of adjusting the Pastor s terms of call. Thank you to everyone who volunteered during our week of hosting homeless families through CARITAS. Whether you assisted with set up and break down, donated items, cooked and served a meal, stayed overnight, assisted with laundry, answered the call for random errand running, or prayed for our efforts throughout the week, you were an integral part of our being able to provide food, shelter, and hospitality to 29 individuals over the past week. Thank you for truly being the heart, voice, hands, and feet of Christ and showing compassion and fellowship to families in our community. The Property Committee wants to thank all who helped with our Fall Clean Up day yesterday! Come enjoy the Bluegrass Music Festival at Camp Hanover, this afternoon from 2pm to 6pm. (Doors open 1:30 pm). Enjoy live music from some of the best Bluegrass bands around. Suggested donation $15 per person. Donations will be collected at the door. Brunswick Stew, our world-famous yeast rolls, and other refreshments for sale throughout the Jamboree. Tuesday morning prayer continues every Tuesday at 9am in the church parlor. Living the Lord s Prayer. After a short time of study, we spend time praying for our church and world. All are welcome! Join us at Java with Jesus, Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Café Caturra, 5811 Grove Avenue and Theology on Tap, Monday at 6:00 p.m. at Travinia Italian Kitchen in Willow Lawn. Our discussion this month Is technology a god? Join us as we jump into a discussion on the continuing advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the significance for Christians. Join us for our mid-week dinner this week. Cooking team 4 is providing veggie and meat lasagna from Zorba s, salad, bread and desserts. Dinner is at 6:00 and programming from 6:30 7:00. This week our program is a continuation of the conversation from Monday s Theology on Tap and Java with Jesus. Please register on the friendship pad today or use the event block on the church home page so the cooking team will know how much to prepare! Next Sunday, October 22 nd, is Dedication Sunday. If you haven t already sent in your 2018 pledge, please bring it with you on Sunday. The Outreach Soup Sale deadline is fast approaching. Orders will be accepted, along with payment, until October 25th. Quarts of Tortilla Soup, with and without meat and White Chicken Chili can be ordered for $8 per quart and picked up at the WNS Fundraiser on November 8, or the following Sunday. This year, we are also taking pre-orders for soup to be delivered in January! All proceeds will be used for Mission efforts coordinated through the Outreach Committee. Please turn in your ORDERS FOR SOUP to the church office. Our 5th annual Rise against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) packaging event is quickly approaching. Our goal this year is to package 15,000 meals on Saturday, October 28th, at 9:00 a.m. To complete this goal, our church will need to fill Duntreath Hall with 110 volunteers and we need to raise $4,500. There are already 36 people volunteered and a total of $1,100 raised. Registering and/or donating is simple, please follow the link below to do so online; http://events.stophungernow.org/tuckahoepc2017. Childcare for children too young to participate will be provided. If you would prefer to register with a paper form you will find those in the church office. Please bring them with you on the day of the event. Join us on Sunday, October 29th at 5pm for Trunk or Treat in the church parking lot! Cars will be decorated, candy will be handed out, the Cheezilla Food Truck will be on hand for you to purchase dinner and the youth group will host a small carnival in Duntreath! This is a Halloween event you don t want to miss. If you are interested in being a decorated car, please contact Dianne St John. The Tuckahoe Book Club invites the congregation to read and meet together to discuss Lila by Marilynne Robinson. Come join us for light refreshments and discussion at 7 p.m. on October 30th in Duntreath Hall. The Henrico Department of Social Services is sponsoring their Thanksgiving Box program again this year. Thanksgiving food boxes are provided to needy families and individuals within their caseloads. All food boxes should feed a family of six. Please, no frozen or fresh turkeys and no perishables. Suggested contents of boxes might include: canned vegetables and fruit, mac & cheese, canned soups, peanut butter, jelly, canned gravy, stuffing mix, potatoes, dessert item, gift card for a turkey ($15-20). Please have all food items to the church by Sunday, November 12. You may leave your groups box in the church library.
