Anthony Hollowell! Fr. Tony was ordained to the priesthood this past June and will soon be leaving for Rome to complete his studies for an advanced degree in theology. He will return to the Archdiocese next summer and receive an assignment in a parish. We are grateful to Fr. Tony for his sharing the gift of his priesthood with us as he presides at our weekend Masses. This Monday, September 19, we begin our Men s Bible Study. Darlene Davis led the women in a very well received Women s Bible Study this past summer and we are grateful to Paul Fisherkeller for leading the Men s Bible Study this fall. St. Jerome, one of the Church s great scripture scholars once said, Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ. Paul will lead us in a four night study and reflection on Saint Paul s First Letter to the Corinthians. The issues facing the people of firstcentury Corinth and those we face today bear an eerie similarity. What can we learn from St. Paul about ways to address these issues in a Christ-like way? The women responded enthusiastically to the summer Bible Study and I would like to challenge the men of St. Mark to do the same. It is a great opportunity to know the heart and mind of Christ as we come to know scripture. Be a friend and bring a friend with you! Last year our Parish Pastoral Council established communications as one of the goals for the parish. A For the Good of the Parish box was placed in the narthex as a means for parishioners to communicate with the Pastoral Council. There has been a great response to the initiative and we encourage parishioners to continue to share their ideas. Beginning next weekend we will post one of the suggestions or comments made For the Good of the Parish in the bulletin each week. Thank you for sharing both the good that you see being done in the parish and needs to be addressed. Your Pastoral Council is listening! Finally, as we enter the final weeks of the Jubilee Year of Mercy we will have some very special opportunities to enter into the spirit of the Jubilee Year through a pilgrimage to the Jubilee Door of Mercy being sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and a special Kindness Campaign that will give us concrete opportunities to conclude the Jubilee Year by extending intentional acts of mercy to one another. Please take advantage of these special opportunities! See you at Mass!

A family enlightened by the Gospel provides a school of Christian living! Annual Life Chain Annual Life Chain - October 2, 2016 ONE HOUR, ONCE A YEAR LIFE CHAIN: STANDING STEADFAST FOR THE UNBORN! LIFE CHAIN is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of individuals standing for 60 minutes praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death. The Central Indiana Life Chain will take place along Meridian Street from 2:30-3:30 on October 2. Our location is on the east side of Meridian between 24th and 26th Streets. If you are unable to stand, feel free to bring a chair. A carpool will leave St. Mark at 2:00 on October 2. Please join us for ONE HOUR of PRAYER! The weekend of September 17 & 18, members of our Pro Life group will be in the narthex for Life Chain sign-ups and shirt sales. SCOUT TROOP 92: The Scouts are selling trash bags Bags are $9.00/pkg. Trash bags are available for purchase in the Parish Office. FOR THE GOOD OF THE PARISH : Our Parish Pastoral Council has set communications as one of the goals of the parish this year. We have had a good response since this has been in place. Please continue to share your suggestions For the Good of the Parish! There is a suggestion box in the form of a church with suggestion paper and pens/pencils available on the Mary Lynn Cavanaugh Welcome Desk. INCLUSION MINISTRY: The most effective way to prevent hearing loss is to reduce your exposure to excessive noise: When using headphones be aware that if someone standing next to you can hear the music from your headphones the volume is too loud. Don t use headphones to drown out other noise. Take frequent breaks to give your ears a rest. CARD PARTY : The St. Mark Card Party will be held in the Narthex on Thursday, September 22nd from 1:00-3:00 pm. You are encouraged to bring a friend. Our last card party for the year will be October 27th. See you there! VOLUNTEERS NEED TO HELP CLEAN CHURCH: Several parishioners volunteer to clean the church each week. Teams of two or more people take turns ensuring that the church is always in good order. One husband and wife team is preparing to retire from this service and so the parish is looking to form a new team to help clean the church. Each team usually commits to cleaning the church eight weeks during any given year. Parishioners who might be interested in learning about this ministry are invited to call the Parish Center at 787-8246. Adoption: The Loving Option As we prepare to mark Respect Life Sunday on October 2, we pray for the sanctity of all human life. We pray for both mothers who find themselves in difficult situations as they prepare to give birth and couples who have adopted children. A loving couple in our parish wishes to welcome a child into their home. As we pray that this desire may be fulfilled, parishioners who know of a mother who is seeking such a home for a child are asked to call the Parish Office. May God bless all birth parents and adoptive parents.
