The Sisters of St Joseph of Carondelet have invited our participation. This federation court house is where deportation hearings are held for immigrants each week. The Sisters and other interested parties depart the second Tuesday of the month for an early morning prayer service. The next service will be Tuesday, June 12. Interested parties meet at the Sisters parking lot off of Randolph Avenue by the Peace Pole at 7:15 am. The group departs for a prayer vigil which is held outside the Whipple Building for about one hour beginning at 7:30 am. A parish representative will meet with you to fill out the paperwork and answer any questions. Welcome! (Call the parish office if you would like to join the parish during the rest of the summer.) The Presentation of Gifts You are invited to bring up the bread and wine at a Mass that you are attending. Perhaps you would like to present gifts on the occasion of a birthday, anniversary or another special occasion. On the day you bring up gifts, the ushers will help you/your family at the appropriate time. You can sign up when you come to Mass (there are sheets on a table in the entry of Church). Lumen Christi Catholic Community warmly welcomes Cullen Leonard Whalen Margot Alice Lakatos into the community of faith. Council Connections Last Chance to Join Parish Leadership This Year Our Councils will be discerning our next set of Council Leaders on Tuesday, June 19. Walk-in nominees are welcome on that evening if you decide that you are being called to serve. The process will begin with prayer, welcome and a meal at 6:00 pm and then each of the six Ministry Councils and Parish Council will work through the discernment process to fill their vacant positions. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will guide nominees and leadership through this important process. There are many ways beyond leadership to Be the Light of Christ in the World. All parishioners are encouraged to discern your own gifts to determine where your light shines brightest.

LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC COMMUNITY Today s Readings Seminarian Teaching Parish Ministry Promises Today s liturgy is full of promises. The reading from Genesis promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God s will makes us family with Jesus, who forgives all sin and triumphs over evil. Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe really believe that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. We can promise ourselves to combat evil and sin by acting as sisters and brothers not only to the Lord, but to one another as well. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. Faith Formation Centering Prayer on Saturday June 23 Lumen Christi parishioner Jim Babin has practiced, led and taught centering prayer for many years in many locations, including with persons in correctional facilities and in recovery programs. He is active with Minnesota Contemplative Outreach. Now he is sharing the wisdom of contemplative prayer here by offering an opportunity to practice with others every other Saturday morning. No need to register. Just come at 9:30 to Room 237. Questions? Contact Phyllis Hamill-Little in the parish office. Church Tour Brochures Available Several members of the Adult Faith Formation Committee have culled the archives and created a brochure highlighting the ways our building expresses and nurtures our mission to be the light of Christ. Check out the faith formation bulletin board to see the fruit of their labors. RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) A small group of inquirers will begin to meet on Tuesday evenings this summer to discern their relationship with the Catholic communion and to nurture their relationship with God. If you wonder about becoming Catholic or about being confirmed as an adult Catholic, please contact Phyllis Hamill-Little in the parish office. If you would be willing to journey with these inquirers as a companion, please join us! Flag Day, Thursday, June14 American Flag This flag, which we honor and under which we serve, is the emblem of our unity, our power, our thought and purpose as a nation. It has no other character than that which we give it from generation to generation. Woodrow Wilson Pope s Quotes Gift of Baptism to be Cherished Children have a right to be brought up in the Christian faith, Pope Francis said. Parents and godparents must make sure they "feed the flame of baptismal grace in their little ones, helping them persevere in the faith," the pope said May 16 at his weekly general audience.
