Pastor s Notes OPPORTUNITY FOR FEEDBACK As you may know, I am participating in a review of my pastoral ministry facilitated by the Archdiocese of Chicago: 360 Catholic Leadership Review. All priests of the archdiocese must participate in the review every five years or so. Given my upcoming transition from St. Mary to St. Raphael, this is a good moment to take stock and consider ways to grow and improve. Part of the review is a parish-wide survey in which all parishioners are invited to participate. It is a short survey consisting of 24 questions; it will take just a few minutes to complete. The survey can be easily accessed by going to the web page of the archdiocese (www.archchicago.org) and clicking on "Departments" on the upper left of the page, then scroll to "Ministerial Evaluation" to access the web page. There, in the middle of the page, find "360 Catholic Leadership review for priests" and click on the appropriate language (English, Spanish or Polish). Finally, follow the instructions for anonymous participation. The web link for the survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/parishwidesurvey-cohort3 THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK During the year, Fr. Guilfoil, Fr. Grzesik and I frequently celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. We are normally asked to anoint the sick in church, at home, and in the hospital or nursing homes. If a person is seriously or terminally ill, I encourage the family to contact a priest and request an anointing by calling the Parish Office at 847.234.0205. If the office is closed, there is an emergency number provided that will help you reach one of us directly and quickly. If you have any questions about receiving the sacrament, please contact one of us. Thank you. OF GODS AND MEN One of the most powerful movies I have seen is the 2010 French Film: Of Gods and Men. The movie is based on the true story of 8 French Trappist monks living in the mountains of Algeria in 1996. The monks live peacefully in a predominantly Muslim community, yet there is a growing threat to the monk's safety due to the presence of extremist guerillas. Should the monks leave or remain? The issues the film explores are issues relevant to our world today. Join us in the Parish Center Conference Room on Friday, April 22 at 7:00pm. Please note that the film is in French with English subtitles. ON THE FAMILY Last October, Pope Francis convened a Synod of Bishops to discuss the hopes and needs of the family in the world today. On April 8, Pope Francis will issue his letter ("Amoris Laetitia") based on the discussions from October. I have asked Dan Cheely of our parish staff to work with me in preparing a panel discussion concerning the Holy Father's letter. The panel discussion will take place in our parish later this spring. Please watch for details in next week's bulletin. Thank you. In our Lord, Father Mike McGovern mmcgovern@archchicago.org

Stewardship Peter was distressed that Jesus had said to him a third time, Do you love me? and he said to Him, Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you. Jesus said to him, Feed my sheep. John 21:17 All of us are challenged to show our love for Jesus by feeding His sheep. Through prayer ask God how you should best use your time, talent and treasure to assist those who are in need. Remember that giving is an act of worship and helps advance the mission of our parish and greater Church.

School of St. Mary-Irish Dance Assembly The O Hare School of Irish Dance treated students at the School of St. Mary with a St. Patrick s Day celebration. Under the direction of Veronica Lilja, an alumna of the School of St. Mary, kindergarten through eighth grade girls presented several routines to Irish music. Siobhan Boyle, Fiona Carroll, Ciara Carroll, Kiley Goodman, Kacey Irelyn, as well as Agnes Vedra enjoyed performing for their classmates.the dancers donned traditional costumes decorated with Celtic designs based on the Book of Kells and Irish crosses. Many of the dancers also wore ringlet wigs and crowns. The fast footwork kept the audience spellbound. The finale included two of Miss Lilja s newest students, Haley Helfrich and Adair Westerman, who jumped up from the audience and joined the troupe in their school uniforms.
