If so, Holy Martyrs now offers a special process that is tailored for those who are already well-formed in the Christian faith but who would like to become Catholic. We call this new process FOCUS and we offer it once a year. Our intention with FOCUS is to offer it at a time that works for participants, including those who may have travel commitments with their jobs. We plan to begin our next offering of FOCUS this September and would love to hear from you now if you have an interest in participating so we can determine the best day and time for all involved. If you are interested but need more information or want to sign up, please contact Janet Payton at jpayton@holymartyrs.net or 330.722.6633. Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Parish School of Religion Holy Martyrs website, click on Religious Education for the forms or stop in the Religious Education Office DID YOU KNOW? By moving our PSR to Monday and Tuesday nights, we are giving our children a SAFER learning environment? Schools all over the country lock their doors to insure the safety of their students. Our Sunday PSR could not offer this assurance because Church doors are open to all who choose to worship at our Sunday Masses. Because we will now have secured entries, our children will also have access to ALL our facilities, including our halls, movie screens, and Church that they could not use on Sundays. And that gives their teachers greater creative latitude for more diversified learning experiences experiences that will capture children s hearts and imaginations, nurture a love for their faith, and ultimately a relationship with Jesus. BONUS: An end to our congested Sunday parking lot! HOLY MARTYRS PSR RALLY MONDAY, AUGUST 24 AND TUESDAY, AUGUST 25 6:00 7:30 P.M. CHILDREN AND PARENTS Bishop Gries will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday, October 18 at 2:00 p.m. This Mass will fulfill your Sunday commitment. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR CHILDREN Do you have a child between the ages of 8 and 15 who has been baptized but hasn t celebrated the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist or Confirmation? Holy Martyrs Church August 23, 2015 Medina, Ohio WELCOME, from Holy Martyrs Youth Ministry! Consider Joining Core Team for Life Teen or Spirit at Holy Martyrs! First Life Night 8/23 at 5:00PM Starts with Mass in the Church First Spirit Night 8/25 at 6:00PM Meeting in Martyrs Hall How sweet is the way of Love! True, one may fall, one may not be always faithful, but Love, knowing how to draw profit from all, very quickly consumes whatsoever may displease Jesus, leaving naught but humble and profound peace in the innermost soul. ~ St. Therese of Lisieux Joe Krivos jkrivos@holymartyrs.net 330 391 8753 I was asked by Diane Bruce the September before last if I would be interested in helping with Spirit... My first reaction was that the age difference between me and the middle school students may be a bit of a barrier. I told Diane that I would go ahead and help since she asked and needed assistance. I thought I would help for the school year and then step back. I started by being a table leader and enjoyed the group of students that I was working with. We developed a good relationship and it seemed that they got as big a kick out of me as I did them. By December I was on the Core team and was involved with planning and presenting the Proclaim on some Tuesdays. I continued with the same group in their 8th grade year... The middle school students respect you and will follow if you know what is going on and what is expected of them. Now I am starting year three as a table leader and a member of the core team. It has been a very rewarding experience for me. -Denny Marco, Holy Martyr s parishioner and Spirit Core Team member

Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Prayer of the Eyes An icon a holy picture can help you pray. The Greek word icon means image, a sacred image of Jesus, Mary or a saint that is painted in two dimensions on wood panels, usually with egg tempera paints. Here s how you can use an icon or other sacred image to focus your prayer. You want to be in a comfortable position and you want to be able to look into the image s eyes. If you don t hang the image on a wall, you might find an easel (or one of those hinged wooden stands used to display plates) to hold the image on a table. Praying before an icon or a sacred image is a matter of looking deeply. Think of how deeply you look at the face of someone you love. You never tire of that face and you notice every detail: the way light and shadow fall across the nose and cheek, how the brow moves, the subtle changes of expression. Look at the sacred image this way, too. Such intense looking will center you in prayer, in the presence of the holy person depicted. You may want to light candles or incense before the sacred image, too.
