Volunteering to serve incorporates doing the right thing with aenon to why and how we do what we do. Four elements guide young people from just being aware, to taking acon on issues of social jusce. Involvement helps young people connect with social jusce issues personally and experienally. Exploration helps young people understand the causes, connecons, and consequences of social jusce issues expanding their knowledge and movaon to work for real change when faced with injusce. Reflection helps young people use Scripture, Catholic social teaching and the lived faith of the church community to discern a faith response to social jusce issues. Action helps young people respond to injusce through direct service or acons of social change, locally or globally, short term or long term. Volunteering for various service projects nurtures a lifelong commitment to service. Those who make service a part of their lives as young people are more likely to be service oriented throughout their lives. Something to think about... Yesterday is history.. Tomorrow is a mystery Today, the present, is a gi from God..
J 17, 2018 CROSS CATHOLIC OUTREACH Father Quinn will be visiting our parish this weekend and will speak at all the Masses on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach which was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priest and nuns working in the church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central and South America. Please be generous in your response to Father s appeal. Brochures will be provided if you wish to support this worthy Catholic ministry. Our Outreach Priest Rev. John L. Quinn Baptism We welcome into our Christian community Lucy Gabriella Denomme, daughter of Elise and Timothy Denomme of Franklin St. in Douglas, who was baptized Sunday June 3 here at St. Marks, and Leah Anne Zanconatto, daughter of Rebecca and Michael Zanconatto of Eight Lots Road here in Sutton who was baptized at the 10:30AM Mass last Sunday. May the good and gracious Lord continue to bless them and their families as they grow! Father Quinn was ordained in the Archdiocese of New York by Cardinal Francis Spellman on June 2, 1962 in St. Patrick s Cathedral, New York City. Since his ordination Father Quinn has ministered as a Catholic high school teacher, a Newman college chaplain, a resident pastor and for twenty years as an active duty US Air Force chaplain. He was assigned to bases in Latin America, Africa, Europe and the United States. Since 1997, Father Quinn has actively represented the world s poor in over 500 Catholic parishes in the American Catholic Church. His priestly ministry by work and deed has focused consistently on the needs of the disadvantaged locally, nationally and internationally. Father Quinn is ever aware that to whom much has been give, much will be demanded. Here I am Lord; I come to do your will. Throughout the week we will focus on the importance of preserving the essential right of religious freedom, both now and in the future, for Catholics and all people of faith. This year s theme is Serving Others in God s Love reminding us that religious liberty allows people of faith to serve God and others freely in ministries like healthcare, adoption and foster care, education, and migration and refugee services to name a few. The significant feast days during the week (Saints Thomas More and John Fisher June 22, Saint John the Baptist June 24, and Saints Peter and Paul June 29) inspire us to follow the example of these great saints who loved God above all and remained faithful in the face of adversity. Please visit www.usccb.org/religiousfreedomweek to download the Pray-Reflect-Act one-pagers for each day on various religious liberty topics. These excellent resources are intended to inspire us to learn more about religious liberty from a Catholic perspective, help us to pray about particular issues, and provide us with tools to act on what we learn. Additional information can be found at www.worcesterdiocese.org/ religiousfreedomweek.
