A week and a half ago I moved into the rectory with Fr. Alex to begin the process of becoming a seminarian. I was born in Virginia, lived in Washington State for a little while, and finally my family moved to Las Cruces about 16 years ago. My daddy was in the U.S. Navy for 23 years and my mom is a marine biologist how we ended up in the desert is still debated to this day. I was homeschooled my entire life and graduated with a high school diploma in January of 2016. I ve considered being a priest since I was 11 years old. I like home style cooking and spending time with family and friends doing just about anything from yardwork to fine dining. I enjoy hiking, hunting, and just chilling out on the porch with a glass of lemonade. I look forward to getting to know you all! NMSU Catholic Campus Ministry Do not be afraid to bring Christ into every area of your life. -Pope Francis Dear Newman Community, We often hear about how troubled young people are, about all the terrible decisions they are making. Today I want to challenge that narrative and tell you a good news story about the young people I have the privilege to minister to and with everyday in campus ministry. Last weekend over 50 students gathered for our eleventh Aggie Awakening retreat at Holy Cross Retreat Center in Mesilla Park, NM. The students took valuable time away from school and work (some likely had assignments to catch up on Monday!) to devote three days to prayer, reflection and community aimed at growing in relationship with God and each other. Over and over throughout the weekend- by sharing personal faith talks about their lives, small group discussion, and prayer- the students embraced vulnerability and courage. They opened themselves to being loved and 'awakened' in a transformative way. I wish you could have seen it! The photo at right is just one snap shot of the joy and life of Aggie Awakening XI. The retreat is put on by students for students. After a student attends a retreat they can return as staff to help offer the experience for their peers. Our staff this retreat was spectacular. A big shout out to head staff, Justine, Anissa, Emily, Monica & Fernie. You guys did a great job! Please keep all of the students who participated in this incredible weekend in prayer, Mona Faith Formation Greetings! Our religious education classes will be participating in our first annual blessing bags project. In an effort to teach our youth about giving to those in need, we will be assembling bags filled with hygiene essentials, snacks and items to keep one warm for the winter. We would like invite our St. Albert s community to be a part of the blessing by donating items needed. You may purchase a few items or sponsor a bag. The cost of to fill a bag is $15 and all items can be purchased at the Dollar Tree. Donations will be collected for the next two weeks (Oct 21 to November 5) and items can be placed in the labeled boxes after weekend masses, or dropped off in parish office during the week. Kindergarten and first grade students will be making cards, second and third grade will sort out all donations and fourth and fifth grade students will assemble the bags during class. Blessing bags will be distributed to individuals in need and local agencies that support those in need during the week of November 12 th by members of the youth group.
