I think we can all agree that Spring had better be on the way as we have had our fill of cold temperatures and snow. Looking forward to Spring and Summer may make you feel a bit warmer so let s do that. We have lost at least one fundraiser with the Staal Foundation Open not returning. At this time we are not sure about Ritchie Bros. Auction. On the positive side, we have our Ham & Turkey Fun Night coming up on May 11th, Slate River Plowing Match in September, C L E Parking in August, Ham & Turkey Fun Night on November 16th and a possible return to Westfort Days to look forward to. Also going on is our Annual Charity 50/50 Draw in support of the NICU at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. There will also be some fun at the Bob Harris Memorial Golf Tournament. Rules are the same as last year. Members have until May 1st to enter a team, then entries are open to all. Monies have to be fully paid by June 1st. The dinner is open to Non Golfers at a nominal cost. Hope to see a lot of you at all or at least some of these events. If you have time on your hands, call Garry Henry to book some time selling tickets. Secretary s Page Highlights from the February 2 nd General Meeting Our guest speaker, Scott Morrison from the Urban Abbey outlined their program for their support program, their coffee shop, feed people, support home for women and their new venture of opening up beds for about 12 people. Their main hall on Red River Road can also be used by any organization, free of charge. President Al Johnston presented him with a cheque. President Al Johnston presented Past President Bob Currie with his 10 year pin, and Gord Crompton with his 20 year pin. Birthday silver dollars for the month of February were presented to Richard Pylychuk, Chaplain Lorne Sampson, Myles Fucile and Stan Cerven. Mystery Person, Senator Don Post collected one fine. The Pot of Gold for $10.00 was not claimed, because Past President Bob Currie was not in attendance at the last meeting. This will be carried over to the March meeting. The ACT draw for $109.00 was not won, because Maureen Rooney was not in attendance. (It pays to attend Maureen) The $10.00 prize was won by Gord Crompton. The pot will be at $208.00 for the start of the March meeting. The 50/50 draw for $14.00 was won by Pat Cross, and he donated it to the Dew Drop Inn Kitty. The Attendance draw for a free breakfast at the March meeting was won by Linda Sumners. Sheriff Garry Henry collected $3.00 in fines and asked all of the members to donate to the Kitty. The Ham & Turkey Fun Night is set for May 11 th at the Moose hall, starting at 5:30 p.m. and all tables of eight have to be booked with the Secretary. We are only setting up 40 tables, to ensure that all is looked after properly. Tickets for $15.00 will be available at the March 2 nd meeting from Past President Janet Huber and Vice President Cathy Nevala. The Charity 50/50 draw is ongoing at the Hospital and Garry Henry can use volunteers for the month of March. Don t forget to book your room at the Day s Inn in Duluth, if you are planning to come, and advise the Secretary. Senator Gary Mork will be conducting the elections at the March 2 nd meeting, and we will only be electing four directors this year. Next year, we will be electing all Offices. If you would like to donate your Triangle points to the Children s Christmas party, to assist the club to buy the gifts, when shopping at the participating deals, all you need to do is quote my cell number, 807-627-5198 and the points will be added to our account. Members information We are the United Commercial Travelers, but our roots are the Associated Canadian Travelers, and last November the Calgary Club, #1014 celebrated their 100 Anniversary, and since this is the founding club of our organization, we are now 100 years old. The Thunder Bay club was chartered in 1934, so this May we will be 85 years old. Hope to see you at the Scand Restaurant on March 2 nd @ 10:00 am for a good breakfast
Canadian Tire Points Our Club has now registered for a CTC points card which will be used to purchase some of the gifts for the Children s Christmas Party. When you are shopping at Canadian Tire, Canadian Tire Gas Bar, Sport Check, Atmosphere or Marks Warehouse, and you wish to donate your points to the club, all you have to do is give the Cashier my Cell number 807-627-5198 and they will be added to our account. If you are carrying your Roster, my cell is on the front cover. 50/50 Charity Draw Thanks to all of you who volunteered for February, we are fully booked. We are going to sell tickets at the Hospital for all of March, Monday thru Friday: - 9:00 to 11:00; 11:00 to 1:00; 1:00 to 3:00; & 3:00 to 5:00. If your membership into the Club in the past was with an insurance policy, you are entitled to a free membership in 2019, and should come due about October or November 2019 and you will pay at this time. (If you wish to know your due date, please contact me for this information) If your membership was already a Fraternal membership, the free one does not apply. You will receive your $45.34 billing. If you received the letter for the buyout for the ADHIP policy, you will not receive your cheque, until you sign the paper work and mail it back to Calgary. Any other concerns, give me a call. Gord Ross PRP Secretary/Treasurer Ham & Turkey Fun Night May 11th, 2019 Advance notice, that it will be on Saturday May 11th at the Moose Hall, starting at 5:30 p.m. All tables have to be booked with the Secretary (627-5198) and we will only have 40 round tables of 8 available. First come, first served. Tickets can be purchased from Vice President Cathy Nevala and Past President Janet Huber and they will be available at the March 2nd meeting for a cost of $15.00 each. Don t leave your bookings to the last minute, you might be disappointed. The committee needs to keep our numbers at a manageable number. Duluth Dinner The Duluth Dinner will be held on April 15th to 17th, and rooms are available at the Day s Inn, across from the Mall, using the Chronicle/Journal ad, with the three different rates, and you will need to produce this ad, when you check in. 1-218-727-3110 This year, the buffet dinner will be held at the Chalet Restaurant (which is just down the road from the Motel) and will be on Tuesday, April 16th for a cost of $20.00 each. You can phone the toll free number in Calgary, which is 1-800-267-2371 and speak to the UCT s Office Manager, Joyce Pierre and put your annual premium on Visa or Master card. No paper work, no cheque, no stamp and it is paid and up to date. If by chance, you do not receive your dues notice, (because of the Royal Mail) you can phone the Local Secretary 627-5198 for your annual amount owing, or Joyce can also give you this amount.
