ALL THINGS CONSIDERED THIS WEEK S LITURGIES COME, HOLY SPIRIT!! On the Church s calendar, the Feast of Pentecost is the third most important celebration. It completes the Easter mystery, when Christ poured out His life, the Holy Spirit upon His disciples. St. Cyril of Jerusalem, who lived through the much of the fourth century and served as bishop of Jerusalem, wrote a catechism, an explanation of all that we believe, for those who were preparing for Baptism. In that catechism, he tried to explain the mystery of the Holy Spirit by saying that the Spirit is like water. Like water, the Spirit gives life. As rain, water falls on everyone but has a different effect on everything watered by the rain. It brings forth flowers, grain and towering pines, each enriching the lives of others. In the same way, the Spirit brings forth a variety of different gifts and ministries in each of us. What was amazing is that this fourth century saint had no clue of how large the earth was nor did he know the science of water s importance to our very existence. We can live for weeks without eating, but only days without water. St. Cyril s explanation gives us a great deal to ponder about how the Holy Spirit touches our lives. I share this with you in hopes that you think of this again next time your thirst leads you to a drink of water. THE RESULTS In Galatians 5:22, St. Paul used the word fruits to describe the effects or the results of the Holy Spirit in our lives. As you left today, you were asked to draw a slip of paper listing a fruit of the Holy Spirit from a basket. I hope you will pray that the Holy Spirit enable this gift to grow in your life. And remember that this result is a gift, produced by the Holy Spirit within us, not for our own good, but for the good of others! JOHN WOOD Not long after our Knights of Columbus Council became the sponsoring organization of Boy Scout Troup 385, John Wood became the Scoutmaster. Over the last several years John has made a significant difference in the lives of the young men that have joined Troup 385, many of whom are from our parish. He has led with words of encouragement and enthusiasm; gentle but firm words of rebuke when needed and, most of all, he has led by example. John Wood is stepping down as Scoutmaster but will continue to work with our scouts as assistant Scoutmaster. On behalf of all us, I would like to thank John for all that he has done. He has truly used his gifts to make a difference in the lives our scouts and those who work with them. Thank you John! Monday, June 13 St. Anthony of Padua, priest and doctor of the Church 2 Cor 6:1-10/Mt 5:38-42 9:00 am +Peter Dooling Tuesday, June 14 2 Cor 8:1-9/Mt 5:43-48 9:00 am +Mark Ruf Wednesday, June 15 2 Cor 9:6-11/Mt 6:1-6, 16-18 7:00 pm +Mike Beauchamp Thursday, June 16 2 Cor 11:1-11/Mt 6:7-15 9:00 am +Michael Cice Friday, June 17 2 Cor 11:18, 21-30/Mt 6:19-23 9:00 am + Barbara Greilach Saturday, June 18 2 Cor 12:1-10/Mt 6:24-34 Sunday, June 19 The Most Holy Trinity Ex 34:4b-6, 8-9/2 Cor 13:11-13/Jn 3:16-18 4:30 pm St. Mary Magdalen Parishioners (Renewal of Marriage Vows) 9:00 am Living & Deceased Fathers 11:00 am Living & Deceased Fathers The Most Holy Trinity Exodus 34:4-6, 8-9 When Moses saw the Israelite people worshiping the golden calf, he angrily threw down and broke the tablets containing the commandments. Later, God instructed him to cut two new tablets. This passage begins at that point, and offsets the mistaken notion that the Old Testament always presents a stern and angry God. 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 This passage is the ending of Paul s second letter to the Corinthians. The Church chose this passage for Trinity Sunday because it mentions all three persons of the Trinity. The passage also contains a familiar greeting which we hear at the beginning of Mass. John 3:16-18 In today s reading, we read what are the stakes of belief and disbelief in Jesus as John sees them: Those who believe in him are nor condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already. Reflect: Name one way in which you experience God s presence as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Fr. Dave Howell

So if you are interested, deliver the items to my office by Monday, June 27 th. If you deliver them to the gathering area of the Church, please make sure that it is labeled for the Migrant Workers, so as not to be mixed up with the Food Delivery items. Religious Formation News from Mary mmahar@parishmail.com and Karen at sect2@saintmarymagdalen.org Youth News from Margaret youth1@saintmarymagdalen.org and Stasia at tkcsmom@comcast.net JUMP INTO PANDAMANIA WITH POGO AS WE EXPLORE GOD S FOR US! JWJ - OUR SUMMER VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will be held August 1-5 here at St. MM from 9:30-11:45! We will have fun with Bible stories, learn lots of great songs, have a blast with bamboo games, eat tree top treats, do crazy crafts and finish with a rowdy wrap up each day! We are still in need of adult helpers and youth (starting in the fall) in grades 6 and up! Please sign up in the gathering area on the Formation table by the home study box! I would like to congratulate all our seniors as you leave high school. Many of our graduating seniors have been very involved in the faith life of our parish and the faith life of many of our younger sisters and brothers. Through the years they have been involved in leading JWJ, teaching or aiding in formation classes, liturgical ministries, babysitting, Leadership Team, Youth Group, Edge Leaders, the Passion play, and much more. While we are excited for our seniors to move on, know that you will be missed while you re away at school! Good luck in all you do! Our youth here at St. MM need you! We need help in many different ways from catechists/aides to hall monitors or substitutes and nursery help - there are many areas that are flexible to meet your needs! Whether you volunteer as a catechist, co-catechist or assistant, we train everyone who works in our classes! If you are interested in helping in the fall program, call me in the office for more information! Consider being on the Formation Team! You don t have to have children to join us! We need people from all areas of the parish to help us have a broad view on all the issues we discuss and action plan on! First Eucharist: If you ordered pictures, or forgot your certificate, you may pick them up in the Gathering Area. Registration for fall classes can be done in the office starting June 1 st, from 9-12, regardless of your ability to pay. Don t forget we have a new time for the session on Thursday: 5:30-7. Ichthus: Do you have a faith story to share? Come and listen to Adam s story. Adam attacked the Catholic faith on the internet using blogs, until one day he befriended a Catholic apologist who turned his life around. Adam will be here Sunday, June 19 at the Ichthus meeting in the North room at 10:30 am here at St. MM. Childcare will be available. Call 248-714-5544 for information. All are welcome. Congratulations to the graduating seniors of 2011! What a privilege it was to share in this great milestone for you and your family. We have been a part of your journey and witnessed your growth in faith and through adolescence. It is our prayer for you that God will be a part of your decisions or choices; that you would rely on him in difficult times and rejoice with him in the good times. We look forward as a parish community and family to be a part of this next phase of your journey, both in faith and in growth! Congratulations and best wishes for success. Thanks to everyone who helped put the breakfast together on Saturday night and then served on Sunday morning. It was really a beautiful morning. I would also like to congratulate Kyle Ann Dembowski, Christie and Kateri Eisenhut, Rachel Kenrick, Herbie Langer, Emma Pressel and Vicki Price who attended every session of our Generation Change Dave Ramsey program for teens. A lot was learned about how to manage income, how to create a budget, and how to be conscious about debt and credit cards. Not only did we learn about money, but we also learned about how we are valuable in God s eyes and what scripture tells us today about how to be good stewards of God s generosity for us with others. We shared stories, goals and faith. We will have another 5-week session in October of this year. CEDAR POINT we are again participating in the Diocesan-wide day at Cedar Point on Wednesday, June 29 th. We will go by bus with St. John s in Hartland, meeting there at 6:45am, and return there approximately at midnight. Download the permission slip from the website at www.saintmarymagdalen.org. Please bring a beach blanket, dish to pass, a chair if you want to use one and if you can carpool with each other. You can reach me via email for the details if you wish to come and celebrate the year with us. EDGE Open gym is still made available for you and your friends every Monday evening from 7-8:30.
