There were a number of areas in which we excelled, namely recruiting, passbook sales, volunteering for our many projects, Plano Clean-up, Minnie's, & Special Olympics. Again thank you. September is going to be a very busy month for our council, so if you have any spare time during the month there is a place your services will be needed. From the Plano Balloon Fest to the Hike for Life Booth's there is something for everyone. Hopefully this month the Pancake Breakfast will be able to go forward after a two month absence. We hope a large number of Knights and their ladies can attend the Corporate Communion and Wives Appreciation dinner on the 15th of September. Don't forget to attend the Rosary before the general meeting on the 10th., it is held in the Chapel of the Faith Formation Building. A special thank you to Paul Cummings, for those who do not know Paul signed up over 10 new men to come to the information meeting in September, he did this while selling passbooks, I hope they all come and become Knights, he is a true Knight. I hope to see a large group of you during this up coming month at all of our functions. In addition he makes sure we are all well dressed, and follow the rules of the order, whether we like them or not, we all should follow his example. Thank you for all you do Ray. Family of the Month August George & Michelle Eldridge George our Past Grand Knight and Michelle his wonderful wife have been a driving force for our Council for many years. Both have always been at all functions, helping wherever needed, even though both have not been in great health. They both serve the church in many ways, as they do the Council. George has been a great help to this Grand Knight, and I know he will be to future Grand Knights. Thank you George and Michelle.
VOLUME 9, ISSUE 8 KNIGHT LIFE PAGE 2 Financial Secretary's Corner As one of the responsibilities of this assignment is to maintain the membership roster in an up-to-date condition I thought I might solicit your input from time to time in our monthly publication, KNIGHT LIFE. Your help in solving some of the mysteries associated with our council will be greatly appreciated. My PRIMARY goal right now is to bring all the delinquent member's dues up-to-date; and to that end I have been working on alerting the 111 members that currently have outstanding balances by mailing them Knight Alert notices. What I have discovered, and what I need your help with is finding several of our members whom we no longer have accurate personal data for mailing or phone contact. So, if you know the whereabouts of any individuals listed below, please drop me an email at artvictorine@gmail.com Council 7850 Knights M. I. A. Michael P Connolly, Luigi S. Algarotti, Francisco J. Avitia, Richard S. Gregory, Ed Zackow, James A. Hatfield, Wayne E. Guidry Five New Knights What happens when bring 18 candidates into the Knights of Columbus at one time? You have one of the largest first degree classes in recent local history. And we had five new knights join our council during just such an event at Prince of Peace on Wednesday night, August 29 th. Alex De Leon, Don Kekich, Ronny Rusli, Scott Schober, and Gary Slater became members of council #7850 while 13 other new knights joined their own councils in the surrounding area. And if you re wondering if it was something to see, just ask Bob Causer, Ricardo McKay, and Dan Zechmeister who were there in support. Please join us in wishing our five newest members a hardy welcome, and make them feel at home when you see them at future meetings and activities. Four Achieve Third Degree Please join us in congratulating four new knights who completed their Major Degree. Gary Wheat, Joshua Gregory, Alex Johannigman, and Joe McCreary all became knights in the third degree at a moving ceremony at Our Lady of Angels parish on Saturday, August 25 th. The Initiation included 26 knights from 8 different councils, and it was witnessed by Bob causer and Paul Cummings who were there in support. Our four brother knights have now completed one more requirement on their way to earning their Shining Armor Award. Be sure to wish them well on this achievement the next time you see them.
VOLUME 9, ISSUE 8 KNIGHT LIFE PAGE 3 Plano Clean-Up The month of August is usually characterized as the Hotter than Hell month for the bi-monthly KC Plano Cleanup. But this was not an ordinary month of August. We had a great rainstorm on Friday evening prior to the planned Saturday Plano Cleanup and the weather was very pleasant on Saturday morning. The weather started out a little cloudy at first and then the sun came out for a beautiful day. There were 16 Knights present with lots of enthusiasm including some new Knights. As usual the Knights worked the stretches of Spring Creek Parkway and Custer Road. The Knights removed 16 plastic bags of debris from these Plano roadways. Upon arrival at the church the Knights enjoyed a breakfast of sausage and egg breakfast burritos, fresh donuts, coffee, OJ, and water. We concluded the morning by finishing off the remnants of breakfast and having our customary raffle. The Knights enthusiasm is a clear indication of Council 7850 support for our city s Live Green in Plano through the AdoptA-Highway campaign. Workers on hand Saturday morning include: David Kistner, Gene Geller, Joe Pelletier, Tom Juneau, Ron Harabis, Paul Szatkowski, Joe McCreary, Terry Schmidt, William Larsen, Ron Braun, Keith Rock, Mike Becker, Joe Petrie, Bill Greco, John Thompson, Aaron Hutton. Thanks to all these participants who helped lighten the workload. Please be careful driving as school is beginning. Reminder it is against the law to be on a mobile phone in a school zone.
