Word of Life Reading I: Isaiah 61: 1-2a, 10-11 Rejoice heartily! Reading II: Thessalonians 5: 16-24 Rejoice always in good times and bad. Gospel: John 1: 6-8, 19-28 Prepare your minds and heart for the Lord. In today s second reading Paul concludes his letter to the Christian community at Thessalonica by providing it with actions to take as they wait for the return of the Lord. The first action is to rejoice always and give thanks in all circumstances. This sounds easy but it s not. The two words that make this task difficult are always and all. This means giving thanks and rejoicing even when our circumstances are not always moments of joy and thanksgiving, or when we are confronted with a broken world. Prayerful stewards rejoice and give thanks in all circumstances because they are people of hope. A good reflection this week would be how the season of Advent can give you reason to hope. Adults: What do you most need to do or let go of in order to prepare for Christ s coming? Children: What special things do you and your family do before the baby Jesus comes? Looking Ahead ~ 4th Sunday of Advent Reading I: 2 Samuel 7: 1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16 The Lord is with you. Reading II: Romans 16: 25-27 Glory be to God through Jesus Christ. Gospel: Luke 1: 26-38 The fulfilling prophecy. In today s Gospel reading we hear proclaimed the story of the Annunciation, when the angel of the Lord announced to Mary that she would give birth to Christ through the intercession of the Holy Spirit. Mary allowed God s messenger to speak to her. She was attentive, not afraid to enter into a dialogue, then unconditionally obedient. Mary s acceptance of this mystery is a stewardship model for us. Good stewards remain open to the incursions of divine life into the normal course of their daily lives. How open are we to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our own lives? What might we do this last week of Advent to be more attentive to the Lord? Looking Ahead ~ Nativity of the Lord Reading I: Isaiah 9: 1-6 The true son of David will soon appear. Reading II: Titus 2: 11-14 You are saved by the divine gift from God. Gospel: Luke 2: 1-14 Jesus is the true Savior and royal son of God. Evangelization The Second Collection ~ THIS weekend is for all the OLOL Cemeteries. It is from your gifts we are able maintain & improve them. Extended Personal Confessions for Advent Are you preparing your house for Christmas? Decorating, tidying up, putting things in order, preparing for guests? The perfect way to prepare your heart the home where Christ would like to dwell is acknowledging your sins, ask God s forgiveness and celebrating the precious gift of the sacrament of reconciliation. This year we are extending our normal personal confession times on Saturday, December 23rd at Januarius and Michael s from 3-4:30pm. 4th Sunday of Advent & Christmas Masses In case you were wondering, attending Mass on Christmas Eve, Sunday December 24th does NOT cover your Sunday obligation to celebrate Mass. The Mass that covers our Sunday obligation is the Mass of the 4th Sunday of Advent. In this Year of the Eucharist we are asked to reflect on the meaning of the Eucharist and the Real Presence of the Lord. Perhaps that is one PRESENT that we can give to the Lord is to take the time to worship and give thanks. Feast of the Epiphany Last year to celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany there was a special celebration where many children who had been baptized in Our Lady of the Lakes Parish were specially invited to attend. This year we are planning to celebrate the Epiphany again on the traditional date of the Epiphany. So on SATURDAY JANUARY 6TH AT THE 5PM MASS there will be a special celebration at Mass for families followed by a pizza party! If you are interested in coming we need to know how many to plan for so please e mail Fr. Leo at fr.leo.reinhardt@dor.org by Monday January 1st and state how many adults and children will be coming. Please Pray for: Jim Snyder, Evie Worth, Marcia Rogoff, Eliza Batton, Mary Sierotowicz, Walt Zerrahn, Yvonne Eie, Connie Reagan, Ely Shriver, Bonnie Clawson, Steve Eberly, Doris Fitzpatrick, Jan Berna, Robert Osborn, Grace Sinsebox, Marian Strickland, Cecelia Wollf, Larry DeVos, Bev Reese, Jennie Petrizzi, Daria Malanga, Betty Rogers, Mary Feeney, Walter Mc Cullough, Jerry Golden, Mary Cook, Irene Soper, Judi Kramer, Jill Petrovich, Lee Carnan, Beverly Hall, Jim Urbanik, Phyllis Loucks, Kathy Shanks, Francis Feeley, James Cramer, Leonard Stachowiak, Laura Baum, Pauline Stachowiak, Steven Richardson, Erica Harp, Bill Thomas II, Scott Thomas, John Houston, Sal Pernicano, Roger Miller, John Giordano, Michael Burke, Anne Gascoigne, Kerry Welker, Joe Monago, Pam Morris, Tom Taylor, Blake Gauss, Ray West, Bob Wallace, Sally Shiffer, Jane Hibbard, C. Peace & Justice Sharing our Holidays with the Needy As we sit down with family and friends this holiday season let s not just bless our food, let s give food to our needy families to bless. Canned goods, cereal, peanut butter and don t forget paper products are always needed at the local food cupboards. Many of our neighbors and friends are without jobs and the numbers are climbing as more businesses close their doors. You don t have to look far to see the families in need. As you shop for your holiday feasts remember to pick up some extra items to donate to the local food cupboards around Our Lady of the Lakes. God will bless you and your gifts. Save Christmas cards We would like to use the pictures on the front of the cards for a project next year at our holy Christmas season. If you could kindly donate them at church when you are finished with them we would appreciate your thoughtfulness. Just bring them to Mass with you and place them in the basket in the back of the church near the confessional. Thank you; Christmas giving committee Martha s Ministry at OLOL Michael s This ministry provides a time for families and friends to socialize over a meal after a funeral. We are proud of this ministry because often people need and want to connect with family and friends at such a time. The ministry is always in need of people to help with the meal and / or provide food. Please contact Margaret Calder (315-536-3532), or Mike Healey (315 536-7133) if you are interested in helping with this ministry. Thank you and God Bless. CMA 2017 2018 We have collected $34,335 as of December 6th towards our goal of $59,788 (57.43%). We sincerely thank everyone who has contributed. Every dollar is important to fulfill the mission Christ has given us. One person does not do it alone. We will meet our goal by working together. Each family that has given will receive a thank you card within one month of your donation. If you do not please let us know to ensure your contribution is properly recorded. Your contributions are greatly appreciated. Remember, the CMA funds are used to help in many different areas including Catholic Charities, information technology support (computers, etc.) and support for staff and our Religious Education Programs. Have an Overabundance of Warm Clothing? Consider donating to the Once Again Shop in Penn Yan, The Open Closet in Naples and The Pauly Collection Box in the parking lot at Theresa s. The Once Again Shop and The Pauly Box also take clean shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, linens, blankets & drapes to distribute to local people throughout OLOL as well as in other U.S. areas. Peace on earth will come to stay, when we live Christmas every day. Helen Steiner Rice Page 4 Our Gifts The Season of Advent: We Are Called to Be Stewards During the Advent season as we prepare for the birth of our Lord and reassess our priorities in life, we should also strive for a greater understanding and appreciation for the ministries in our parish, and look within our hearts to determine what role stewardship plays in our lives. This season, we trust that you will give financial stewardship prayerful consideration. Our parish has been using an Online Giving system that is strengthening stewardship as well as making it easier for members to support our parish. Your regular contributions support the operation of the church and all of our ministries. Sign up today by visiting https://ourladyofthelakescc.weshareonline.org. On behalf of the entire staff, we want to thank you for the contributions you continually provide to our parish. "Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." --Luke 6:38 OLOL Pastoral Council The OLOL Pastoral Council will be meeting Monday, December 18th, at 7PM down in Michael s Church Hall.
