Luke 2:11-14 Today is Christmas Eve. It may be a very busy time for you, but please take the time to read the first two chapters of the Gospel of Luke. You will hear about Elizabeth, her husband Zechariah, the Archangel Gabriel, Mary and Joseph and the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. If you do this, you will likely be better prepared to celebrate with joy the birth of our Savior tomorrow on Christmas Day. And now, something for the people on your gift list. Many of you have already bought or made gifts, but here s a suggestion for an additional gift for the people on your list. You do not need to go shopping; all you need is a few quiet moments to think a little more about how God works in our lives. God, and God alone, fulfills every authentic yearning of the human heart. He provides life and peace, wholeness and love, contentment and joy. So, sometime today or tomorrow, think of each person on your gift list and hold them in prayer before God. Pray that they, like the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Elizabeth, may joyfully recognize the presence of God in their midst. We can include ourselves in the prayer, so that we, too, might more fully recognize God s presence in our lives. May the stars which shone so brightly on that first Christmas Eve bring the light of hope to our families; may the voices of the angels fill us with joy; and may the Holy Family fill our hearts with the love that only the Christ child can bring. DECEMBER 24, 2017 Page 3 Correction to Parish Advent Activity Calendar The Parish Advent Activity Calendar distributed in the bulletin on Sunday, November 26 th, stated that January 1 st the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God is a Holy Day of Obligation. Because the feast day falls on a Monday this year, it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation for this year. We will still have Mass at the times indicated on the calendar Sunday evening at 5:30 pm, and Sunday at 10:00 am and 12:00 noon. Mass attendance on the feast day is recommended but not required. No Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament There will not be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Monday, December 25 th (Christmas Day) or Monday, January 1 st (New Year s Day). The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe will be holding a Priesthood Discernment Retreat from 5:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2018 through 1:00 pm on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at the Madonna Retreat Center adjacent to St. Pius X High School in Albuquerque. This is a weekend for single Catholic men (from high school juniors to age 50) to explore and learn more about a life serving God and His Church as a priest. The retreat will include: (1) personal testimonies describing vocations, (2) The challenge of the Gospel (values worth living and sacrificing for), (3) life as a seminarian, (4) possible assignments after ordination, and (5) addressing concerns about the image of the priesthood. If you are leaving a purse in the trunk of your vehicle, it is best to place it in the trunk when you leave home rather than wait until you arrive at the church parking lot. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM-The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is offered the third Sunday of the month after the 12:00 PM Mass. Arrangements are to be made in person at the parish office. A birth certificate is required. Parents and godparents must attend a Baptism class that is offered the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM in Room 1 of Fatima-Gallagher Hall. Godparents must be at least 16 years old, confirmed and actively practicing their Catholic faith. If Godparents are married, they must be married according to the norms of the Catholic Church.
