The second part of our Parish Vision statement begins by saying that we will Invite People to Christ. This is the task not only of the parish staff at Church of the Blessed Sacrament, but rather, it is the responsibility of every single parishioner. Every member of the Catholic Church, not just Church of the Blessed Sacrament, has the solemn responsibility of inviting people to encounter Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Like St. John the Baptist, who made one final effort to prepare the people for the coming of Christ, we too are called to prepare souls to not only encounter Christ, but to encounter Him and to establish a lasting and meaningful relationship with Him. Giving What You Receive In order to assist others in encountering Christ and establishing a lasting and meaningful relationship, we each need to be mindful of our own relationship with Christ. While we are engaged in various ministries and other good works, it is important to keep in mind the necessity of maintaining and building upon our relationship with Christ. What value is our ministry if we have lost sight of Christ? We cannot invite people to meet someone we do not know. If we are trying to help others on their way to encountering Christ, then we need to have established a solid relationship with Him all the more. (continued on pg. 2)
WE ARE DISCIPLES: LEARNING, LOVING & LIVING CHRIST S MISSION It can be a temptation when we get heavily involved in so many ministries that we forget the reason why we are involved in them in the first place. We must keep in mind our vision of inviting people to Christ, changing lives, forming disciples and sending them out into the world and that this is only possible for us individually and collectively when each of us takes seriously his or her relationship with Christ. Go and Announce the Gospel of the Lord At the end of Mass, the concluding line of the priest or deacon is called the dismissal. There are four options which can be said: Go forth, the Mass is ended. Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life. Go in peace. Regardless of which dismissal is said, the people always respond: Thanks be to God. Have you ever considered the meanings of these words? When the priest or deacon says Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord he is saying something very important, that is probably overlooked more often than not. He is telling the people to live their lives according to their dignity as a son or daughter of God the Father. He is telling the people to go out and share the Gospel, perhaps directly, but more likely through their actions and interactions with people. A person seems more authentic and compelling when their words and actions match up. This authenticity opens up a great opportunity to invite people to encounter Christ Jesus.
