SEVERE WEATHER CLOSINGS AND CANCELLATIONS When the chancery is closed or a diocesan event is cancelled due to severe weather, the staff and the public can receive notification through several methods: 1. Call the Diocese at 563-324-1912 and press three during any part of the receptionist s message. 2. Check the Diocesan website home page www.davenportdiocese.org 3. Check the Diocesan Facebook page www.facebook/diodav DIRECTORY CHANGE Rev. Bob Striegel: new address: 780 West Central Park Ave., Davenport 52804-1901 (phone & email remain the same) NEW DIOCESAN PHONE NUMBERS The newly renovated third floor has its first occupants: the offices for the Bishop, Vicar General, Chancellor, Development and Finance. These staff members now have their permanent phone numbers. Please see the attached updated phone list. Yet to move to the third floor are the offices of Vocations, Liturgy, Stewardship and Diaconate. The Social Action Office will also be moving. An updated phone list will be emailed when the next moves occur. The staff phone list may also be accessed from the diocesan website homepage, www.davenportdiocese.org, as it will be updated the days the offices move and phone numbers change. FINANCE OFFICE Scholarship for Catholic College Students: Applications are being accepted until February 1, 2011 for the Marguerite A. Ritzinger Scholarship $1000 scholarship. This scholarship is for Catholic students who will be college freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors in fall 2011. The following must be submitted as one package: application, essay, high school or college transcript, and two reference letters. Last year $18,000 in scholarship money was distributed. An application can be downloaded at www.davenportdiocese.org/finance/finlibrary.htm. STEWARDSHIP OFFICE The diocesan Stewardship Commission has planned a Servant Leadership Day on January 13, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at St. Patrick Parish, Iowa City. The workshop will meet a dual purpose of concluding the fall 2010 Servant Leadership Institute and launching the spring 2011 Servant Leadership Institute, which will run from January - April. The only cost of Servant Leadership Day is the cost of lunch, approximately $5 per participant. LITURGY OFFICE Reminder for Roman Missal Workshops: Please get your registrations for the Deanery Roman Missal workshops in as soon as possible. The deadline for the January workshops is December 1 and the deadline for the February workshops is Jan 3. PASTORAL SERVICES Social Action... Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) Collection: Thank you for your support of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. If you missed the collection, it isn t too late to give a check to your parish marked CCHD. This collection helps people out of poverty. National Migration Week: Renewing Hope, Seeking Justice is the theme for National Migration Week, January 2-8. Resources are available in English and Spanish through the USCCB. A poster, prayer card, and bulletin insert can be found at http://www.usccb.org/mrs/nmw/index.shtml or call 800-235-8722. Operation Rice Bowl: Order cards for materials were mailed to all parishes in early October. If parishes did not use this card an order can be placed at http://orb.crs.org/ and click on order form or call 800-222-0025. Orders will be shipped in early-january, six weeks before Lent. The Annual Catholic Social Ministry Gathering will be held February 13-16 in Washington, DC. The theme for the 2011 gathering is Protecting Human Life and Dignity, Promoting a Just Economy. St. Vincent Home Corporation Grants must be postmarked by March 19 for consideration at the spring board meeting. All applications must be postmarked by that date. To be consistent with its purpose, the St. Vincent Home Corporation will focus on those projects that assist children who are in the greatest need. Projects that address children in general should explain the extent to which the project also supports children who have special needs, such as poverty, family breakdown or other disadvantage. The grant application and criteria are available at http://www.davenportdiocese.org/socialaction/sastvincenthomecorporation.htm. Please note important changes in the criteria. If you received a grant in the past you must also submit your progress report by March 19. New funding applications will not be considered until Progress Reports regarding previously awarded grants have been submitted. Day of Reflection: Growing in Faith Through Difficult Times, February 26, St. Patrick Parish, Iowa City. Sr. Joyce Rupp will facilitate this day of examining life, death and new life. This day is open to all parish and school leaders and those seeking a day of renewal. Peace, Love, Jesus the Junior High Youth Rally will be Sunday, March 20 at Regina Catholic Education Center. Our keynoters will be Oddwalk Ministries, featuring Shannon Cerneka, Orin Johnson and their fabulous keytar. Information will be e-mailed to all parish leaders soon. Registration deadline is March 4, with March 11 being our final deadline (at an additional $5 per registration). Upcoming youth events Notre Dame Vision: The ND Vision program helps young people recognize God s call in their lives and respond to that call with courage and faith. High school students from across the nation will join together at the University of Notre Dame for five days of discernment about how they can grow and use their gifts. Our diocese is coordinating a contingent to attend June 20-24. Youth applying should have attended CLI (see below). Scholarship support will be available. CIA brings nearly 100 Catholic youth (incoming freshmen through graduating seniors) together for three days of service, prayer, learning and fun. Christian Leadership Institute (CLI), to be held July 24-29 at the Ewalu Camp and Retreat Center in Strawberry Point.
