The 2012/2013 Wagga Wagga Club Directory prepared by Philip Cross was distributed by him. President Daya observed that many people of Chinese origin have moved to Australia. If members know of a Wagga person of Chinese origin who meets the Rotary criteria, please consider a nomination for membership. On Thursday, 30 th August, WIN TV will be filming at the Rules Club. They want to include us in this so it would be appreciated if you could wear your Rotary Shirts to the meeting if possible please. The Rotary Club of Narrandera is holding a Photography Exhibition on Friday and Saturday 17 and 18 August in the Plaza Hall, Bolton Street, Narrandera. Admission is $4 for adults, children free. If you wish to enter a photo or photos in the exhibition the cost is $3 per entry with $200 first prize in each of the four divisions: Portraiture, Landscape, Open and Macro/Close up. For more information please contact John or Kathleen Foster on 02 6959 8538 or 042844490or email jkfoster1@activ8.net.au SHORT AND SWEET: Ruth Barber used this spot to define Success in this Olympic fortnight. I ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. Michael Jordan. THE RAFFLE: Mike Murray had seated himself at the same table as our three guests. He had given our three guests his usual warm and friendly welcome. One of those guests drew the raffle and guess who won the raffle? Why Mike of course! SERGEANT AT ARMS: Tim Crowley was our Sergeant at Arms for the night. He started by apologising for being late but declared he wasn t sorry. Tim s first fine was for Mike Murray. As time was short, Tim then fined all members up front to make sure the funds were in the bag. He then proceeded to question members about matters Olympic, present and past. As always, very challenging and good for the coffers! Alok Sharma took the opportunity to cross-fine Tim for his late arrival and Tim dutifully paid up. GUEST SPEAKERS: David Friedlieb introduced Amy Heap, Rachael Lawrence and Jeannie Nicholls from the Wagga City Library who addressed us on the subject of Babies Like Books Too. They were assisted by good audio/visuals on the screen. Amy told us about the modern library which is becoming a Community Space which provides trustworthy advice as well as access to information for all. Rachael, a Speech Pathologist, emphasised that early literacy for young children is very important. A DVD was played which showed parents reading to young children in the library. Jeannie Nicholls re-emphasised the importance of babies learning from soon after birth. Peter Harding gave the vote of thanks and led the acclamation. UPCOMING BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES 10 th August to 16 th August Birthdays: Nil Wedding Anniversaries: Nil Rotary Anniversaries: Phil Jackson (15/8/1996) and (1980 to 1994)

Kookaburra Kookaburra Unlike many tales of this ilk, this occurred not in a bar, but in a restaurant. A frequent patron noted that another frequent customer was a brown-robed, bare-footed monk. Every day, the monk would come in and order the lunch special. And every day, the waitress would charge him only half price. While he could appreciate the courtesy accorded to a man of the cloth, the patron felt there was a certain unfairness involved, so he complained. He was somewhat mollified when the waitress explained that the monk was a member of the restaurant s frequent friar program. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Media Privacy Declaration I,.do NOT consent to being photographed or filmed for publication in any form of media.
