Welcome! Message from our RaBBI "The world stands on three things: Torah (study), Avoda (Temple service/prayer) and Gemilut Hasadim (Acts of kindness)." In this famous statement Shimon HaTzadik sets out the pillars of the world. Naturally he is referring to the entire world, but the microcosmic worlds of family and community are supported by these pillars too. It is not by chance that these three areas were singled out by Shimon HaTzadik as they affect the three primary dimensions of our lives: Torah-the self; Avodah- Man and G-d; Gemilut Hasadim- Man and his fellow. All three need to be in tact in order to ensure that our world stands strong. Shivtei Yisrael wants to provide the environment for each person to move forward in these three all encompassing areas of life. Jewish tradition understands that these goals can not be achieved when we are islands to ourselves. Only through the matrix of relationships that a community provides can we realise our potential individually and collectively. The new committee is to be commended for its presentation of a year plan for our shul which intends to cover as many areas as possible. Should anyone have a suggestion or idea that they would like to see implemented, it will be warmly welcomed. I pray that Hashem should guide us to realise the highest possible goals in Torah, Avoda and Gemilut Hasadim, and continue to allow us to be partners in the great miracle of the ingathering of the exiles which we have been privileged to witness and participate in. A generous donation was made to start the fund, and subsequently many people have made contributions to sustain it. We aim at helping those in immediate need, many of them referred to us by the Social Services, who are not always able to assist due to budgetary constraints. Every case is thoroughly checked by a committee of volunteers, assisted by a social worker. In view of the present economic climate, the needs of the fund are great. Should you wish to be a partner in this truly important mitzvah project, your donation will be sincerely appreciated. Please send your contribution to Shivtei Yisrael, Box 737, 43107 Raanana.
