O Brien Diocesan Lenten Appeal Update Our early returns are in from the diocese and thus far we have raised $14,220 toward our goal of $65,000. All should have received by now their letter from Bishop Malesic along with the information about this year s campaign. If you did not please remember our goal for the diocese is over $54,000 and our goal for Saint John s is over $10,000. The moneys raised for the parish will enable us to be able to fix some potentially damaging areas of the parking lots and to replace the lighting in the Mary Garden next to the rectory. Your gift is most important. Please help us out. Envelopes are available at the entrances of the church if you did not receive your mailing. St. Vincent de Paul Next weekend is St. John Church s weekend for donating to St. Vincent de Paul, here are some suggestions for the food pantry this month to help them prepare for Easter: canned ham, canned yams or sweet potatoes, sugar, potato side dishes, cooking oil, canned mixed vegetables, canned fruit, cake mix & frosting or brownie mix, jelly, peanut butter, salt & pepper. Items can be placed in the bins located in the main entrance of the Church or the side exit near the rectory. With Deepest Sympathy Condolences are extended to the families of Father James Popochock and Frances Perry. May God grant them eternal rest and comfort to their families. Evening Prayer and Lenten Reflection As part of the Lenten Season we are offering an evening of reflection on Monday, March 27. The evening will begin at 6:30 PM and include Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Sung Evening Prayer, a Lenten Reflection by Father Jim, and conclude with Benediction. Looking for something to help to focus your thoughts for Lent? Come and see, as the Lord invites us to spend time with him. Easter Candle Donation Thank You Our 2017 Easter Candle was donated by Helen Kanar in memory of her husband Regis Kanar. The Parish is so grateful for the kind donation. REFLECTION 4th Sunday of Lent "So he went and washed, and came back able to see." The man born blind was healed by the power of Christ. But the man played his part as well. First, he let Jesus spread the clay on his eyes, which was probably just as strange as it sounds. This wasn't a typical practice for curing blindness! In fact, there was no such practice; as the blind man said, "It is unheard of that anyone ever opened the eyes of a person born blind." Yet the man trusted Jesus enough to submit to this odd therapy. Then, still caked in mud, the man followed Christ's direction to wash in the Pool of Siloam. Only after this washing was the healing complete. If the man had doubted Jesus, if he had been too skeptical to participate in this unusual ritual, he would not have been cured. But he believed. He took Jesus at his word and obeyed his command. Ironically, this man without physical vision "saw" what those around him did not. He recognized that Jesus was a prophet. The Pharisees, on the other hand, were "blinded" by Jesus' boldness in curing the man on a Sabbath day. They thought they were looking at a sinner. Jesus tells us he came, "so that those who do not see might see." Where do we fall on this spectrum of spiritual vision? Are we like the man who followed Christ without question? Like him, do we respond to Jesus with obedience, even when it doesn't "appear" to make sense at the time? Or do we struggle to see Christ in the trials of life? During this season of Lent may we identify any areas where doubt has created a blind spot in our hearts. Let us pray that our eyes may be opened to recognize, even amidst struggles, the One who is "the light of the world." Sanctuary Candle In acknowledging the Real Presence of Christ, the Tabernacle Candle will burn in loving memory of Deceased Members of the Doorley & Yezbak Families requested by Dr. Charles & Alice Yezbak
