President s Report: Hi All, Well what a great weekend, a few technical hitches but all in all an excellent Convention. Young Jacobi a fantastic speech maker winner he shall go a long way with attitude like he has. Dine and Dance evening was a heap of fun, the music from the band was fully in accord with the age group attending, and everybody was great company. Pakeke Paints were well to the fore on the dance floor, most exercise for a long time. Sunday s service and Remembrance was excellent and very well done. Congratulations to the County Lions Ladies. Planning for the Auction will be starting shortly as will a roster for Wheat and Wheels gates. Our away Tea Meeting at the Bowling Club was a great success, with a few visitors attending and Peter Livingston as Guest Speaker made for a nice evening. We have a good number wishing to go on the trip to CHCH and the Court Theatre in April. Cheers President Ray H. Don t Forget Next Tea Meeting is a Irish Theme Night, wear something green

1st VP Report With two of our main fund raisers coming up in April Gate Duty for The Wheat & Wheels Vintage Machinery at Butterick s and Our Pakeke Lions Charity Auction it is going to be a really busy month. We are currently working on allocating duties for both of these events, so you will be contacted shortly to discuss your involvement. Bob Rodgers will be our liaison man between The Wheat and Wheels Committee and Arthur Pawsey will be the auction CEO. As I am going to be away for most of April and cannot attend either of these events, I wish to thank Arthur and Bob and others who have already accepted responsibility for allocated duties. (See List else where ) Peter O Neill ~ Old Italian proverb... After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box. Programme Report for March 2016. The speaker for the March is Klaas de Boer, who is professor of Astro Physics at Bonn University in Germany. He is a Dutchman who has pursued his academic career in English speaking countries as well as Europe. He is confident in his ability to talk about space and astronomy in terms that laymen will understand and enjoy. He has a daughter living in Ashburton so spends quite a lot of time here. The Mt Somers district trip scheduled for March 20 th was well supported when the clip board was circulated last meeting. 32 names on the list including possibles. Meet at the Mt Somers domain at 2.30 and the school will put on a bus or buses to take us over one or two of the larger properties in the district. After the bus tour we can gather for a picnic afternoon tea in the domain. It will be useful to know how many are coming on the day so if you pull out let Joe know (302 4848 or jabutchard@xtra.co.nz). Similarly if you didn t put your name down and now want to go let me know. It will help the school bus people to know if they need one or two buses. Cost $10 pp. The bus trip to the Court Theatre in Christchurch, April 21, has been well supported with 35 tickets to the show sold and paid for. The bus will leave Hotel Ashburton at 2.00pm and will cost an additional $20 pp. The meal venue has changed from the RSA to the Breakfree but the cost per person is still in the order of $18. The March tea meeting will be on 21 March (note early date because of Easter) and will have an Irish theme. 2nd VP Joe Butchard The only reason they say 'Women and children first' is to test the strength of the lifeboats. 3rd VP s Report Thank you to those who are participating in the Child Cancer Appeal on the 18th. Old Coins. At our next meeting I ask members to help Graeme Neale with the Heads up for Kids Appeal by bringing along any old coins you may have for his bucket collection. Berwick. If you know of anybody who would benefit and would like to go on this course please get in touch with me asap. We already have one going from this Club. I am not sure whether you will read this before our District convention in Ashburton or not, but there are some things I have noticed to the lead up to convention that I would like to comment on. Firstly it was disappointing not to receive any entries for the Winton Trophy that is the trophy for the best club project. I know that all clubs have taken part in some tremendous projects throughout the year, which would have qualified, but it seems no one has taken ownership of putting an entry in. On the same theme, not all bulletins were judged for the District s two bulletin trophies, the Clarkson Trophy for nonelectronically distributed bulletins, & the District 202J Electronic Bulletin Award for electronically distributed bulletins, because not all bulletins were submitted to our judge Beryl Naismith, our J Times editor. I hope these two issues will be corrected by next year. Neil and I will have attended District L s convention in Whakatane weekend of the 19 th 20 th February, to support District Governor Jim and Robyn Towersey, especially as Jim is seriously ill with cancer, so our thoughts are with them both. Conventions are events that we all should seriously think about attending, and as our Multiple District is taking place in Timaru on the weekend of the 29 th April to1 st May next, I would encourage you to think about attending. If you haven t attended a Multiple District convention before, you will get a new slant on this organisation, and see the amazing work carried out by people throughout New Zealand, people just like you and me. Until next month, take care.
