News from David I can t believe that it is a year ago since I wrote something for the 2016 Summer Newsletter, time goes so quickly and the summer will too. Enjoy this time of great weather (we hope!) and the opportunities to get out and about while remembering those in our church family for whom, summer is no different for all kinds of reasons. Life at bbc will continue at a slower pace over the next few weeks. Sunday services will be shorter and all together (no Sunday Club). Our theme is a post card from looking at places in the bible. Please remember, if you are away on holiday, or just a day out, to send us a post card which will appear on our special presentation board for all to see. Chill and Chat has just celebrated its first full year and will continue throughout the summer on the 2 nd Thursday of each month. When we all get back at the beginning of September, the REAL mission won t be far away, so please remember to pray much for it during the summer months and be ready to reach out to our community with the love of Jesus. So, have a great summer and when you attend a church on holiday, please send them greetings from us all and we look forward to seeing you at bbc when you are around and on your return from your holiday. Have a great Summer!

Notices Monday Evening Prayer Our Monday evening prayer and worship (8.15pm) will continue in the summer holidays, Monday 24 th July Monday 4 th September, except on Monday August 28 th (Bank Holiday). Space Academy Summer Holiday Club The Holiday Club takes place from Tuesday 25 th July through to Friday 28 th July from10-12pm at Bourne Baptist Church. The club is for children aged between 4 and 11 years old. For further details, please speak to Roland Smith or Leigh Smith. The Club will finish on the Friday night with a tea at 5.30pm. We will be catering for potentially 80 guests and would love it as a church if we could work together to source all the food. There is a sign-up sheet at the Information Point, detailing the food required. Please bring the food to the kitchen in the back hall by 12pm on Friday 28 th July. Ladies Christian Novel Reading Group The next Ladies Christian novel reading group takes place on Thursday, 17 th August 7.30pm at the home of Angela Higgs. The book for this month is Havah, the story of Eve, by Tosca Lee. Myth and legend shroud her in mystery. Now hear the story From Paradise to exile, from immortality to the death of Adam, experience the dawn of mankind through the eyes of the woman first known as Havah. For further details, please speak to Angela on 425385. Corporate Prayer Meeting Our corporate prayer meetings take place on Wednesday 26 th July and Wednesday 30 th August in the church from 8pm. We would encourage you to come along and pray together.

New Sermon Series After the summer break, there will be just two Sundays before the mission. David and Nick will take one of these each then we look forward to hearing of people committing their lives to Christ during the mission. Following this exciting time, we will start our new sermon series Your Kingdom Come, going through the Lord s prayer. Many of us of a certain age will have known this wonderful prayer at school, others will have used it in church or in private prayer times. It is so easy though to say something so often and be familiar with its words that the real meaning becomes less affective. Some attending our church may not even have heard of it so we look forward to this new series which will take us on a journey looking at the Father heart of God, His wonderful promise of provision, forgiveness of sins and so much more. There is so much in this prayer that will challenge and encourage people of all ages and stages of spiritual growth. Church Directory The new version of the Church Directory will be available in the Autumn. We will be emailing it out to all of those on the list. If you wish to receive a printed copy of the directory, then please email Gill Arnold at admin@bournebaptistchurch.org. Please note this list is only available to those included in the directory. Should you wish to be included on the next edition please let Gill know. Latvian Aid David Grikis is asking for specific donations of wool, thread, pencils and crayons to be handed in by Sunday 30 th July to be sent out in August to Latvia. Tea/Coffee Rota Maureen Cornell is looking for a minimum of 2 volunteers to serve on the tea and coffee rota. If you would like to know more please speak to Maureen.

Real Mission Update With just under 2 months to go we are now drawing close to our week of mission in conjunction with Mission 24, running from 18 th 24 th September. The 18 th and 19 th September will be days of prayer at the church (a signup sheet will be available from Sun 3 rd Sept for people to commit to come and pray) and then the team will be in operation from the 20 th through to the 24 th September. The purpose of the mission is to enable Bourne Baptist Church to reach out to the town of Bourne and offer our community the chance to not only hear but also respond to the good news of the gospel. This will be done through work on the streets, open homes offering Coffee mornings and Afternoon teas, evening and Sunday gospel services and a community event on the Saturday from 11am to 2pm. Across each of these works, there are opportunities for the local church to get involved, see the information desk in the back hall for signup sheets we need you to sign up and support if these ideas are to happen. Our hope is that the mission will impact the community and people will come to a point of accepting Jesus into their lives, therefore we have an Alpha course planned to start on Tuesday 3 rd October for adults and a youth alpha happening on Thursday evenings as well. Please would you pray for the Alpha courses, for the team and organisation as well as for good attendance. Alongside these opportunities we hope that people will join our morning worship which may involve change for those of us who are regular attendees. We are considering, should the need arise, of having two services on a Sunday, alongside this please recognise the increased need to ensure as a church to offer a warm welcome to all who are guests. We say this because this isn t solely down to our welcome team, though they have a specific responsibility, we are all called to offer a warm inviting welcome. As I draw this to a close I want to encourage you to seek God for the mission ask him to grow an excitement in you regarding the mission, this has the potential to be of great impact to the town and us as a church and the wider church in the town. Please pray for protection over the events of the week for the practical side of the mission and for the health, not only of the whole team, but for us as a church and for those we have in mind to invite as well. I urge us as the church to not only pray about our personal involvement but to act on it by signing up to something.

Send us a Postcard? Throughout our Summer family services our theme will be A Postcard from different places in the New Testament such as the shores of Galilee. Alongside this we would like to create a wall of postcards and would encourage you to send postcards from your holidays/days out from now until August. Please send to Bourne Baptist Church, West Street, Bourne PE10 9NE. We hope to be able to have a good display of a variety of places. We look forward to hearing from you! The One Event @ Lincoln Showground The One Event (formerly known as Grapevine) takes place across the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August, from 25 th 29 th August at Lincoln Showground. Quite a few of our church family will be camping there and if you would like to go for the weekend or just visit for the day go to www.one-event.org.uk to find out more details. Soul Survivor Every summer thousands of young people gather together across four events in Scotland, Stafford and Peterborough to worship God, learn what it means to live for Jesus in every area of their lives, to pray for one another, and to have loads of fun! Each event lasts for five days and has two main meetings a day, plus seminars and lots of great venues so you can hang out with your mates over a hot chocolate mountain, work up a sweat in the sports venue, watch a movie, or enjoy some live music. There is also some brilliant pop-up community events. We have a group of young people attending the Peterborough event from 19 th to 23 rd August. Please pray for them along with Leigh and the other youth leaders as they attend this event. Chill n Chat Drop In Chill n Chat, our drop-in ministry continues Thursday 10 th August, 10am to 12pm, in the back hall. This takes place the second Thursday of every month and is for anyone within church and the local community who would like to meet with others, gain support etc. For further details, speak to Maureen Cornell.

Election of Deacons in October October is the time of year that we hold an election of Deacons. We would ask you to prayerfully consider any names that you would like to put forward to the leadership for consideration. Please collect a nomination form from the church office to then be submitted to the Elders by the 11th of September, earlier if possible. Deacons are an integral part of our leadership team and as such should be people that are called by God to this service. If you wish to have further details, please speak to a member of the leadership team. Who let the Dads Out Who let the Dads out continues on Saturday 9 th September from 10am to 12pm in the back hall. This is a Dads/male carers and toddler group taking place the second Saturday of each month. If anyone is able to offer help at these events please email Nick Humphreys at nick@bournebaptistchurch.org Charity Craft Day Saturday 4 th November We will be holding our charity craft day again on Saturday 4 th November. Please put this date in your diary. If you would like to have a stall, or help on the day, please speak to Gill Arnold or Katherine Paskin for further details. Operation Christmas Child As we have done in previous years, Sean Beaton will be arranging the collection of shoeboxes filled with gifts for children around the world who don t normally receive Christmas presents. The shoebox appeal is organised by UK charity Samaritan s Purse which has been spreading God s love to children in need in over 130 countries since it started in 1990. Watch out for the leaflets arriving at the end of September/beginning of October and start picking up items now to prepare. The shoeboxes will be collected early November. For more information please speak to Sean Beaton.
