Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 23, 2018 FOCUS: Jesus calls on us to set ourselves apart from the world and serve others. Our world is full of arguments and conflicts. People fight and despise one another out of jealousy and selfish desires. Today, Jesus calls on us to be different from the world and learn to serve others. This is how we can be the greatest in his eyes. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, we hear how the wicked plan to revile and torture the just one, putting God to the test of defending him. In the second reading, James contrasts the character of those who have wisdom from above with those who are bound by earthly things. In the Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples of his impending death and resurrection. When they fail to understand, he exhorts them to have an attitude of service to the least among them. REFLECTION: As we celebrate the "true presence" of Jesus in today s Eucharist, we might consider where in the world we also discover his true presence. We could begin looking in the direction he points today, to the least. "Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me." So we ask ourselves: Can I "receive" and accept the child within myself the vulnerable and scared little one whom God has already accepted? What can I do or say to protect the children in my church, community or world? Safe Environment Program All volunteers who come in contact with children are required to have clearances on file along with class certificates as set forth by the Archdiocese and Pennsylvania. One of the classes is Protecting God s Children. This 2 1/2 hour class is being offered at Presentation BVM on Wed., Oct. 10 at 6:15pm. To register, go to www.virtus.org. Questions please contact Judi at 215-745-1389. Baptismal Certificates If your child has recently been baptized and you would like a Baptismal Certificate, please contact the rectory at 215-745-1389. Bishop Dennis J. Sullivan has called Michael G. Bortnowski, who was baptized in our parish, to the Order of Deacon. The church rejoices in the commitment to ministry which Michael G. Bortnowski has made and we announce it to you with great joy. The ordination is to take place at 10:30am on October 20, 2018 at the Catholic Community of Christ our Light Parish (St. Peter Celestine Church) in Cherry Hill, NJ.
