Special NOTE for all Members During one of our Council s dinner event, an issue came up that leads to this letter-for-allmembers to take note to heart. Please read carefully as it concerns all members. To: Grand Knight Joe Wiggins Grand Knight-Elect Charlie Marino From: PGK, Council Advocate John Freuler It s been brought to my attention that there are issues within East Multnomah Council 3179 that are in dire need of immediate attention. These issues relate to how some members of the Council treat certain specific members of the parish; general members of the parish; as well as other Brother Knights within the Council. Brothers, I would like to remind us all that we as Knights of Columbus are charged to, first and foremost, good Catholic Christian men which means that we are to be followers and emulators of Jesus Christ and His Teachings, the greatest of which is To Love God, and to Love Our Neighbors as Ourselves. I would hate to think that some of our own Brother Knights would harbor sentiments that would be counter productive to the direct teachings of Jesus as it relates to how we treat all other human beings, since we are all made in His image. I suggest that all Brother Knights carefully, and prayerfully, examine their own thoughts and feelings to the issues of politics, race, place of national origin, and their own outward behaviors towards each other. I never dreamed that I would have to say this to any of my Brother Knights, however at this time, I fell that I must. I want to be very clear, so there is no misunderstanding, in saying that there is no place within the Knights of Columbus for Racism or Prejudice towards any of God s children. Always remember that your behaviors are very visible, and do not go unnoticed. Your behaviors are noticed by your Brother Knights, other parishioners, other people from outside the parish, but most importantly, your behaviors are noticed by Your Divine Maker. Our treatment of one another should hopefully result with smiles on one another s faces. Those smiles, however, should never be at someone else s expense. Our treatment of one another should never result in feelings of embarrassment, shame, and lest of all, fear. These may sound like strong words, and I don t like to be accusatory. But there is definitely work to be done here. And it has to be done by us. We are all charged, as Catholics, to build up the Church. We are similarly charged as Knights of Columbus to build up the Council. Let s fix our own house so that others will appreciate being both members and guests.
Let s Love One Another, Respectfully yours, John Freuler
