MASS SCHEDULE Sunday Vigil 5:00pm (Saturday) 7:30am, 9:00am 12pm, 8pm 10:30AM - Spanish 4:00PM - Pakistani 5:30PM - Haitian Monday through Friday 6:30AM and 12:00 Noon Saturday 8:00AM Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 5, 2018 FOCUS: Only God can satisfy our longings. Today s readings remind us of a fundamental truth about human beings: we are never satisfied. Nothing that the world provides be it food, material things or fulfillment of desires can ever be enough to make us truly content. In the end, only God can satisfy our longings. LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, we hear of God s gracious, abundant provision to the Israelites of daily bread and meat. Paul encourages us to put away the futility of our old way of life and put on our new self in Christ. Jesus assures the crowd that follows him, seeking a sign, that he himself is the Bread of Life. REFLECTION: While Jesus addresses people s physical hungers, he also challenges us not to search for physical food alone for we will be hungry again. He encourages us to come to him for the food that lasts. Why not try to name the hunger we feel at this moment in our lives and then hold out our empty hands and ask Jesus to feed us. He sees our hungers and will not deny us the daily bread we need. So we ask ourselves: What is our deepest hunger our most urgent thirst? What physical hunger in the world are we being called to address?
