POWER WWW.POWERPHILADELPHIA.ORG We are about to begin another year as a proud member of POWER (Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower, and Rebuild). POWER is a faith-based, non-partisan, non-profit community organization affiliated with the PICO network. For further information about POWER, visit info@powerphiladelphia.org or call 215.232.7697. MORE ABOUT POWER: BUILDING A CITY OF OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL SHS is one of over 40 member congregations, including five synagogues. POWER is not affiliated with a political party. Through the financial support of the congregations, POWER is beholden to no one but their members. Their goal is to hold the public and private sectors accountable to those who live in Philadelphia. SHS has had a significant member participation rate in POWER advocacy activities. We will continue our efforts towards: o Public School Funding Reform We are working to enact and fully support a fair funding formula for PA s public schools taking into consideration the characteristics and tax bases of each community, as well as the special needs of its student population. o Immigration Reform We are working to include Philadelphia in the national push for legislation that will provide immigrants who are already here with a path to citizenship. We are asking all SHS members to support our affiliation with POWER by making a voluntary $50 contribution (see page 18) so that we may continue to do this important work. Page 6 of 19
