Sustaining Donors Ads from our Sponsors 8 10 11 ב 1 Volume 3, Issue Cemetery Restoration Project from Jim Eisenstock, former chair As the year is coming to an end, I would like to again thank all who contributed to the project, and advise you of the final results of your contributions. We embarked on this project because of the complete disrepair of the 30,000 square feet and over 130 graves. The area was covered with crab-grass, weeds, deep holes, sinkholes, and more. It was unsightly and unsafe. After meeting with several professional landscapers and irrigation installers, I determined that restoring the cemetery was absolutely necessary I estimated a budget of $15,000. After approval of a loan by the SOZ Board, the Jewish Endowment Foundation September 2017 Elul 5777/Tishrei 5778 made a loan of that amount to the Cemetery Committee. We started on a campaign to restore the cemetery. The total individual responses of 110 (one hundred ten) totaled $19,187. Copies of each of the responses are in my file. After paying the irrigation contractor and the landscaper $14,700. the balance of $4,187. remained for maintenance. The JEF was repaid the total amount of their loan; none of it was used. Continuous contributions must be made to the Cemetery Committee for ongoing maintenance of the cemetery. Mrs. Joanne Saltman is chair and Nitza Seaver is co chair. The cemetery must always be a place of serenity, peace and holiness. I wish to personally thank again all who have contributed to the project. The committee wish all a Happy and Healthy New Year. Jim Eisenstock, Former Chair of the Restoration Project.

To free people from all which cruelly oppresses them, to let the oppressed go free, to break every chain, to share your food with the hungry, to take the homeless into your home. Clothe the naked when you see him. Do not ignore a needy relative. Then light will break forth like the dawn, and your wounds will soon be healed. Isaiah 58:6-7, From the Haftarah for Yom Kippur morning Adapted from The Mahzor, Rabbinical Assembly, and Tanakh, Jewish Publication Society We are taking a food collection for Margaret s Pantry, an emergency food pantry in Holyoke. During the High Holy Days, it is customary to help those in need. The Tikkun Olam Committee asks that you participate in this effort by filling a bag with non-perishable food items and bringing it back on or before Yom Kippur. Bags can be left in the small social hall as you enter the Synagogue. Thank you for your participation in this mitzvah. Margaret s Pantry is especially in need of the following items: Canned goods Meals in a can Soup Meal makers ( e.g. Hamburger helper) Instant potatoes Spaghetti sauces Canned ravioli, pastas Packaged school snack items Ramen noodles
