Why red? As we know, Christ had promised His Apostles that He would sent His Holy Spirit, and, on Pentecost, they were granted the gifts of the Spirit. The Spirit appeared to them as parted tongues of fire, and it sat upon every one of them. With the descent of the Holy Spirit, Christ s mission is completed, and the New Covenant is inaugurated. Since red is the color of fire, we have adopted that color as a symbol of Pentecost, the arrival of the Holy Spirit. Our paraments will be red and the chancel will be decorated with red geraniums on that Sunday. YOUTH NEWS YOUTH OUTINGS We are looking for members of our congregation to help coordinate or host youth events. Think... canoe/kayaking, lock-in, cookout & bonfire, hanging at the dunes, Whitecaps game, service project, outdoor movie, horseback riding, volleyball at the beach? We hope to get some events on the books for this summer, fall and winter. Let Megan know if you have an idea and we can brainstorm. You will have support with organizing and monies. More hands make the work lighter and get more people involved!!! For more information on youth activities, contact Megan at Maltbie.m@gmail.com.

Congratulations to Emanuel s own Todd Reed who has been named the 2015 Fourth of July Freedom Festival Grand Marshall by the Ludington Area Jaycees. This year s theme is Portraits of America. It is fitting that Todd, as a long-time advocate of the Ludington area, should serve as Grand Marshall. Todd s love for Ludington and the surrounding area is evidenced by his 33-year service as a member of the United States Coast Guard Reserves, his prior work at the Ludington Daily News and, most recently, his ability to capture the natural beauty of Ludington through the art of photography. Todd will be formally introduced as the 2015 Grand Marshal on Wednesday, June 10, at the Jaycee s Summer Kick-Off Concert at the Waterfront Park Pavilion. Again, congratulations, Todd! MARK YOUR CALENDAR EMANUEL WILL HOST COMMUNITY TABLE ON TUESDAY, June 2nd. Your help is needed. We especially need your help with cooking, serving and clean-up! We also need volunteers to provide cakes and cupcakes for dessert. See the sign up sheet in Luther Hall. Please consider this opportunity to be of service to the greater Ludington community. OUTREACH OFFERING Your donation to the Outreach Offering (formerly the Noisy Offering ) after service on the fourth Sunday of the month will be used to support Emanuel s commitment to outreach in our local community, including our ongoing responsibility to provide dinner at the Community Table once every nine weeks. As you leave church, please place your offering in the soup kettle in the back of the Nave. Thank you! As you know, Emanuel is in partnership with the Salvation Army Food Pantry. We collect food for the pantry during months that contain a fifth Sunday. Sunday, May 31st, is the fifth Sunday of the month. We are asking for donations of canned goods and other non-perishable food items. Donated items may be placed in the Narthex. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity! A special note of thanks goes out to Woody & Sue Millspaugh who so graciously deliver the food items to the pantry.
