February 21, 2016 2nd Sunday of Lent Fr. Brian Bell, Pastor Faith Formation News Page 3 Dear Parishioners, We are just entering week four of our Lenten journey. As I look around the parish, you are doing great! Our ministries are thriving: the Stations of the Cross, the Knights fish fry, the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Christ Renews His Parish, and mass attendance numbers are all up! Good going! In continuing with our theme this year Best Lent Ever, we have invited a special speaker, Dan DeMatte, to lead our Lenten mission. Mr. DeMatte is a speaker and evangelist who is passionately dedicated to the way we view our church and saintly holiness. He will speak about the need for change and as he calls it, a Holiness Revolution! Dan attended Ohio Dominican University where he studied theology and philosophy. He is presently pursuing a Masters degree in theology at the Pontifical College Josephium in Columbus, Ohio. He and his wife, Anna are the proud parents of three young daughters. Please be sure to attend this very important mission as Dan challenges us to be the best God created us to be. The mission will run from Sunday to Tuesday evening, March 6, 7, and 8, 2016. We will begin at 7 p.m. in our church. We are so blessed here at St. Bernard of Clairvaux. Yours in Christ, Father Brian Stations of the Cross Fridays during Lent: - 6:00 P.M. February 26, and March 1, 18, 25 Please join us for this liturgical devotion that offers you a prayerful reflection and witness to Jesus Passion and Death. For all of our First Communion/Confirmation families, the date of the ceremony will be Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2:00pm with Bishop Olmsted. Please mark your calendars now with these dates for two mandatory rehearsals. First Communion rehearsal will be Monday, April 18th from 6-7:30pm in the Church and Confirmation rehearsal, with sponsor, will be on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00-11:30am also in the Church. All First Communion children and their families should have received a letter by now concerning the Retreat and Parent meeting and family dinner this Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 11:30-6:00pm. Please make this retreat a priority for your children as it is a big part of their preparation for Confirmation and First Communion. Please don t forget to RSVP so we have enough food for dinner. Sacrament classes are now closed. Registration for all other classes is ongoing through the year. As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns about Elementary Faith Formation, Sacrament Preparation (Elementary, Middle or High School) or Adult Confirmation, please contact me at kstine@diocesephoenix.org or call me at the Parish Office, 480-661-9843 Ext. 309. God s Blessings, Kathie Adult Confirmation: All adults, 18 years and older and out of High School, who are in need of the Sacrament of Confirmation and are Baptized, received First Communion and are practicing their faith are invited to join us on Thursday, February 25th from 6-9pm in the Parish Center classrooms, rooms 201/202, for preparation for Confirmation. We will have refreshments, community time and a teaching on the history of the Sacrament of Confirmation and its importance as a Sacrament of Initiation in the Catholic Church. Please call Kathie at the Parish Office if you are interested in attending class and completing your Sacraments of Initiation. Please bring a copy of your baptismal certificate to the gathering. I look forward to meeting you and helping you through this process. Confirmation at St. Bernard s will be celebrated on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2:00pm with shop Olmsted. This is a wonderful opportunity to complete your initiation in the faith! 2/21 - "All Who Are Thirsty" (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - Like the woman at the well, do you believe that Jesus is the Messiah? What does your relationship with Christ look like? What distracts you from God? 2/28 - "Connected" (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - How are you connected to others in the "tech" world and the face-to-face world? How are you connected to God? Are they all good connections? 3/18 - "Life Teen Spring Retreat" (Friday 3/18 at 5pm to 11am Mass on Sunday 3/20) - We will be going to Camp Shadow Pines in Heber, Arizona for a retreat on the Person of Christ. This retreat will include various physical activities, a hay ride, a bonfire, interactive sessions, singing, adoration, etc. Space is limited, so let the Front Office know as soon as possible if you'd like to attend. The cost is $85. Shannon Hards, Director of Youth Ministry 2/22 - "Thou Shalt Do!" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - Do you know the Ten Commandments? Why do you think God gave us the Ten Commandments? How do the Commandments help you live a better life? 2/29 - "Called to Greatness" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - Do you know about the story of David? What made him great? What can you learn from his example and leadership? 3/14 - "Bold Faith" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - What does it mean to have bold Faith? What is Pentecost and what impact did it have on the early Church? How does all of this apply to you today as a middle schooler? Shannon Hards, Director of Yourh Ministry

What you have written is but a drop compared to the ocean. I am Love and Mercy itself. There is no misery that could be a match for My mercy, neither will misery exhaust it, because as it is being granted it increases. The soul that trusts in My mercy is most fortunate, because I Myself take care of it. From the diary of St. Faustina (1273)
