Hosanna! Church Annual Report FISCAL YEAR 2018 SEPTEMBER 2017 AUGUST 2018

LETTER FROM THE LEAD PASTOR Dear Hosanna!, What a year we ve had! In Fiscal Year 2018, I saw our vision begin moving from paper into the hearts of people. Together, we truly multiplied the hope and heartbeat of Jesus. It s for these reasons that I m thrilled to share this FY18 Annual Report with you. In the pages that follow, you ll see quite a few numbers. But even more so, you ll see stories - stories about growing in faith, reaching the churchless, empowering the powerless, and unifying the church. Each of these show the impact of a life transformed by Jesus. They are a compelling representation of how Jesus worked in and through Hosanna! In 2018. It s my prayer that you sense the momentum as you read through this report - it s a special time to be a part of God s Kingdom! Reflecting on FY18 naturally leads us to look to the future, and I m confident we have much to be excited about. Thank you for your dedication to Hosanna! and bringing our vision to life in the coming years. What a great God we serve! Peace, Ryan Alexander, Lead Pastor

GROW So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. COLOSSIANS 1:9-11 Judeen calls Hosanna! her mulligan. It s a term often associated with golf, referring to a second shot that s allowed after a poor swing. In life, it s considered a do-over. Hosanna! was Judeen Limbeck s mulligan the church that led to a new and life-giving relationship with Jesus. For 16 years prior to retirement, Judeen worked as a waitress at a local restaurant. It s here she served many Hosanna! bible studies and found these groups easily identifiable. There was a unique joy and warmth about them, Judeen recalls. They would freely pray together, cry together, and laugh together. I found myself thinking, I want what they ve got! Feeling led to experience Hosanna! for themselves, Judeen, her husband Marc, and their children began attending at the Lakeville campus. Hosanna! has now been their chosen church home for six life-changing years. Hosanna! has taught me the true meaning of a do-over. I see every step on our walk with Jesus as a new opportunity to multiply His hope and heartbeat, she says. Judeen attributes much of her spiritual growth to her experience with Adult Ministries. Core Courses like God s Story/Your Story and Freedom Story were sources of healing. Classes like Marriage Rebuilders infused revival into her family. Stepping out of my comfort zone and getting involved at Hosanna! has shown me a loving God who reveals Himself in His creation...me! I see every step on our walk with Jesus as a new opportunity to multiply His hope and heartbeat. Judeen sees her church as an extension of her family. She knows she can count on Hosanna! for prayer, encouragement, support, and as a source of great joy. My hope is that others will see Jesus in me and say, I want what she s got! 1

REACH So Jesus told them this story: If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep. In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven t strayed away! LUKE 15:3-7 Over the past few years, Hosanna! has quickly become a second home to Kianna Howard. Amidst a demanding high school schedule filled with extracurricular activities, you ll find her gathered at the Shakopee campus every Wednesday night to worship with Student Ministries. Kianna always knew she wanted to go on a student Impact Trip, so when she was given the opportunity to serve the people of Guatemala, she jumped at the chance. When I signed up, I didn t have a clear intention, I simply felt called to go, she recalls. What she didn t know at the time was that God was going to move in powerful ways in the lives of the young women traveling together. Our team had ups and downs in Guatemala, but God was faithful to break down any wall or barrier we put up. He showed us what it means to love one another like Jesus does. Day after day, God revealed His character to Kianna and her group. We went on this trip to bless families in Guatemala - and I believe we did that. But the people we met also radically transformed our lives and hearts. Kianna witnessed emotional healing, revival, and significant moves of the Holy Spirit while serving and worshipping with communities in need. I left Guatemala in total awe of God s power. Because of this trip, I have a newfound desire to know Him fully. We went on this trip to bless families in Guatemala - and I believe we did that. But the people we met also radically transformed our lives and hearts. Hosanna! Student Ministries has continued to play a significant role in Kianna s relationship with Jesus. Because of Hosanna!, she adds, I ve become a young woman who truly wants to know God and experience the power of His love. 3

EMPOWER No, this is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the Lord will protect you from behind. ISAIAH 58:6-8 For Mike Easton, the decision to serve alongside Hosanna s HEART Ministry made a significant difference in his walk with Jesus. HEART was created in 2012 as Hosanna s response to natural disasters. Since then, it has expanded to include all types of emergencies, including community disaster assistance, individual and family emergencies, and a specialized prayer ministry. Today, HEART is dedicated to serving communities in need and practically demonstrating God s love in the Twin Cities and across the country. Mike has attended Hosanna! for over 10 years, but it was three years ago when he felt called to live out his faith through service. God made the path clear. Mike s love for people, prayer, and construction led him straight to the HEART team. Jesus has a pretty consistent theme in scripture, he says. We re called to love, serve, and help the poor. It s a sacrifice to give your time, but that s exactly what true giving is meant to be. With HEART, Mike has helped fully rebuild homes destroyed by hurricanes, provided much-needed resources to Minnesota families in need, and seen the power of prayer firsthand. My time with HEART has been filled with Holy Spirit moments, he recalls. All of our efforts are such a blessing to the people on the receiving end and also to me as a Jesus-follower. We re called to love, serve, and help the poor. It s a sacrifice to give your time, but that s exactly what true giving is meant to be. Because of HEART, Mike feels called to inspire others, asking them to serve the least of these (Matthew 25:40) with dedication and gladness. People of Hosanna!, he says, I feel God asking us to say yes to joyfully giving our time and resources. Everyone in the Kingdom is equipped to make an impact - Mike knows this full well. Answer God s call on your life, he urges. Through Jesus, you have everything you need to be a blessing. 5

UNIFY I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. JOHN 17:20-23 It was Christmas, and the Bernatz family needed a church. After moving to the south metro from St. Michael, MN, Holly, her husband Scott, and their two children found themselves searching for a church that would help their new community feel like home. I was sobbing on the living room floor, telling my husband that we needed a church for Christmas, Holly recalls. That was when God led me to the Hosanna! website. We decided to come for the live animals because we thought the kids would find them pretty cool. That was Christmas 2012. Since then, we ve been attending Hosanna! on a weekly basis. The last six years have been transformative for Holly and her family. The Bernatz s children, Ava (age 13) and Grant (age 10), are now deeply rooted in Hosanna! Family Ministries. I firmly believe Hosanna! Family Ministries is a catalyst for how our kids see God in every fiber of their life-thread. And as a volunteer with children and student programming, Holly loves growing in faith alongside Ava and Grant. I firmly believe Hosanna! Family Ministries is a catalyst for how our kids see God in every fiber of their life-thread. While the Hosanna! buildings are large, the family is small, she says. We ve each found a place to plug-in and truly multiply the hope and heartbeat of Jesus. 7

LOOKING TOWARDS THE FUTURE This is a defining moment for Hosanna! as we look ahead and determine how we ll continue to multiply the hope and heartbeat of Jesus. In the coming years, Hosanna! will seek to: GROW God is calling Hosanna! to extend into new areas in the south metro. Instead of starting a congregation from scratch, we feel led to come alongside pre-existing churches through adoption. The churches we ve identified as potential adoptions have demonstrated long-lasting, fruitful relationships with their communities. We are confident that we will be better together. REACH Reaching others beyond the church walls is at the heart of Jesus message and the posture of His ministry. We trust that when the world authentically connects with the people of God, they ll feel called to connect with His Church. With this is mind, we re committed to being active participants in our neighborhoods, workplaces, and families - becoming a body of Christ that the nearly 200,000 churchless people in the south metro will find irresistible. EMPOWER In the coming years, Hosanna! will continue to be a church of love in action - caring for people around the corner and around the globe. We feel God calling the church to send designated teams to Ethiopia, Haiti, and India to serve those in need and set captives free. He s opening doors for us to impact communities in need through the HEART ministry. And He s showing us how to intentionally train people in the way of discipleship. We know following His lead will bring Hosanna s mission and vision to life. UNIFY Hosanna! believes the big C Church provides us with an experience we can t get anywhere else - a close, dynamic encounter with God within authentic community. The Church possesses the unique capacity to make all the difference in our lives and in our world. In a culture that too often feels divided, we are dedicated to rising above the fray to be a source of love, truth, and transformation in the south metro. When the Church stands united, we all rise. MATTHEW 28:19-20 11

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. 12
