Weekly Connection - August 28, 2014 In This Issue This Sunday & Week Ahead Joys & Concerns Upcoming Events Children & Youth Women's Ministries SAGE From the Church Office Sharing God's Word Worship 9:00 & 10:30am Luke 5:1-11 This Sunday will be the last week of our Doors and Windows series. We've talked about different biblical characters who moved through seasons of transition. We've learned from the ways those ancient figures experienced the holy when other parts of life were moving and changing. Have you noticed that none of those stories have been about Jesus? Jesus lived his whole life in transition-he marked a new beginning in God's relationship to humanity, and everywhere he went, he enacted change: on people, on communities, and on systems that were bringing about death instead of life. The Old Testament stories we've shared these past few weeks set the stage for this final installment: as Jesus calls some fishermen to try the other side of the boat...and ultimately, to drop their nets altogether. How do the stories of our own past prepare us for seasons of change? Can we see transitions as opportunities? Allow ourselves to be moved and shaped in these times, rather than blown about and rattled? Maybe it's all in what we're willing to let go... Either way, come Sunday. The door's open. And maybe the windows, too. Rev. Erin Wathen, Senior Pastor This Sunday & the Week Ahead

Erika Marksbury There's always more going on in a section of verses than any one sermon can (or should!) address. The preacher always reads more commentary, probes more ancient language, discovers more current connections than it's reasonable to expect congregants to sit still and listen to. And yet, digging into these details can help deepen our connections to scripture, and doing that digging together can help deepen our connections to one another. Every Sunday, this class will investigate the verses that inspire the sermon. Come once in a while, or come every week, to talk about what you hear in the scriptures, and to learn what others are saying about them, too. This class will have a rotating team of teachers.
