A PRAYER FOR A STEWARDSHIP PARISH Dear Heavenly Father, My parish is composed of people like me; I help make what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great, if I work. It will be prayerful, if I pray. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring people to worship & fellowship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, and a parish of noble spirit, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with your help, O God, I shall dedicate myself, to the task of being all things that I want my parish to be. DID YOU KNOW By Jim Jones, Parishioner In 1971, Roe brought an action to the Supreme Court challenging the constitutionality of Texas abortion laws. Roe, a healthy mother, wanted to abort her healthy child. However, she lived in Texas which prohibited abortion, except on medical advice for saving the life of the mother. Roe might have aborted her child legally in any other state (e.g. Washington), but contended that she could not afford the travel. As the case worked through the courts, Roe gave birth and put the child up for adoption. FORMATION RESOURCES Don t forget about your FREE subscription to Formed.org, where you can stream hundreds of hours of inspiring movies and video series, read Catholic ebooks, and listen to audio presentations from compelling speakers. IF YOU ARE NEW TO FORMED.ORG: 1. Go to formed.org. 2. Click on Register to create your FREE account. 3. Enter our Parish Code: 4CZMDN and your email address. PICK OF THE WEEK The Court found that the Texas law was unconstitutional on the grounds that it violated the guarantee of personal liberty and the right to privacy discovered in Griswold, discussed in last week s bulletin article. Texas argued that since life begins at conception and continues through the pregnancy, the state had the duty to protect the child in the womb. However, Justice Blackman, writing for the majority (7-2), stated We need not resolve the difficult question of when life begins., the law has been reluctant to endorse any theory that life, as we recognize it, begins before live birth. That was a difficult question in 1971. However, it is not difficult today since the theory has been proved unquestionably true by modern science. We know from the science of genetics that at the moment of conception, a distinct, unique human being is created. The decision Blackman and others made was wrong, deadly wrong!! The human tragedy of abortion in America began with arcane reasoning over a constitutional right to privacy, which led to a judgement which has been proved to be factually incorrect. Today, the abortion industry pushes a campaign of lies and obfuscations trying to keep a simple truth hidden the life in the womb is a child, and must be protected!! GET THE FACTS. GET INVOLVED. BE A CRUSADER! 4

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER March 5, 2019 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. In the Parish Hall Adults - $5, Children - $2.50 Families - $13 Sponsored by the Altar Society 5

LENT IS COMING Lent is a season of prayer and penance set aside by the Church to prepare us for Easter and to recall Our Lord s fast in the desert (Matt 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13). This season of preparation and sanctification can be fittingly accomplished through voluntary amendment of life, acts of penance, and works of charity. Lent is a time to learn to love our souls more than our bodies. Thus every Christian should make a special effort to practice mortification and strive for holiness during the forty days of Lent. Consider the following categories of what you should do for Lent: Voluntary Amendment of Life: Give up those aspects and things that you need to give up sooner or later, namely bad habits. Your goal here is to break a bad habit for ever and Lent is a good time to do so. Examples: complaining, using vulgar words, eating and drinking junk food, watching TV, overuse of social media/visiting bad web pages, ect. Acts of Penance: Perform some kind of penance. Your goal here is to train yourself to say NO in little things, so that you can say NO to bigger temptations later. Examples: avoid eating or drinking something that you enjoy, listening to music or watching movies, playing video games, ect. Works of Charity: Perform some good and holy actions. Your goal here is to strengthen your relationship with Christ and His Beloved Church. Ideally what you begin here would continue in some way even after Lent is over. Examples: attend daily Mass, pray the Rosary every day, increase spiritual reading (Sacred Scriptures, life of a saint or saints), make a daily visit to the Most Blessed Sacrament or a shrine of Our Lady, visit the sick or infirmed, help at the Frassati Supper, Closet, and/or Cupboard, etc. DO NOT LET THIS TIME TO GROW IN HOLINESS PASS YOU BY!! (Partial Reprint from saintland.com/lent/) 6
