JUNE 2016 FAITH NEWS Monthly newsletter of Faith Christian Fellowship Blessed Summer Summer Sermon Series Beginning June 5 By Pastor Gordon I think it is safe to say that summer is here. Sure because winter was especially interesting this year, summer has been delayed, at least from the standpoint of many of us with children in school. You can t really move forward until homework, tests, and end-of-year programs are completed. If you are like me, you want to squeeze everything you can out of summer. However, that very desire can feel oppressive. The time passes through your grasp so easily. It is during the summer months that we feel James warning the most, that life is just a vapor (James 4.13-15). Basically, we are asking, How can I maximize enjoyment during these leisurely months? They should be the happiest ones of the year, right? Did you know that the usual definition for blessed in the Bible is happy? Let me give you an example. In the first two verses of Psalm 1, we read How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! Monthly Prayer Gathering Wednesday, June 15 6:30pm In the Sanctuary at FCF Continued from Page 1 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law, he meditates day and night. How HAPPY is the man who is fully devoted to God s perfect word for counsel, despising the counsel of the mockers and scoffers! You could do a Bible search for the word blessed and discover the ingredients for a happy summer, even a happy life. Beginning in June, that is exactly what we are going to do as a church on Sunday mornings. Matthew 5 describes the ingredients of a happy life. It is well worth our time to consider what will make this a Blessed Summer. Y@H News for those 50 years of age and older. As I write this article for the Faith News, Memorial Day weekend is upon us. As a tribute to those within our Y@H family who have served (or perhaps continue to serve) our military, I am asking those men and women to let me know who they are; when and in what branch of the military they served; where they were stationed; and what type of work they did. So far twelve men and women have replied to my query. I m sure there are others, so, if you read this, and you are a Y@H (active or not), please let me know the details of your service to our country so that I might include you in our list. You deserve to be recognized! Those we know about so far are Richard Baumgartner, John Birl, Danny Cobb, Walter Eberhardt (deceased), Tammie Fisher, Rick Karns, Ed Mantz, Bob Mauck, Steve Michael, Don Muffley, Art Roberts (deceased), and Russ Wingerd. Thank you to all of you and the many others. In keeping with our patriotic theme and honoring our veterans, there is a musical program called One Nation, Under God being presented at the Christian Life Assembly of God in Camp Hill, PA on Saturday and Sunday, July 2 nd and 3 rd. It is their Patriotic Celebration 2016. Although we are not putting together a formal Y@H trip for this show or providing transportation, there may be a group who would like to get together and go see it. If you want to contact me, I ll try to pass the names along through our email so that you can get together. Tickets for the show are $12, available by contacting CLA at 717-737-1887 or online at www.claproductions.com. June is right around the corner.
