OFFERING RESPONDING TO GOD S WORD MUSICAL OFFERING Veni Emmanuel Wayne Kerr INVITATION TO THE LORD S TABLE THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The advent of our God is and was and is to be! Come, O God, Holy, Mighty, and Immortal One! To God we entrust our souls. To God we lift our hearts. Praise and thanksgiving be to God! we join our voices in singing your glory: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest. Remembering that you poured out your mercy through Christ Jesus, we take the bread of life and the cup of grace and joyfully celebrate that mystery we call faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Hear us, now, as we pray as Christ taught us Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Christ is coming to make all things new! *ADVENT CAROL Now It s Time to Light the Candle (verse 1) (tune: Sicilian Melody) Now it s time to light the candle, soon God s promise will be here. Young and old we wait together for the Savior drawing near. Light will overcome the darkness: see the hope the Christ Child brings. ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING Alan and Kathy Sestak Something s coming. We re waiting. We re eager. It s more than presents. It s more than lights. We open the Book of Hope and read the promise. God will be with us. Our hearts are glad; we trust God s holy name. God s never-ending love surrounds us. Today we light the candle of Hope. Our hope is in the Lord. *CAROL While We Are Waiting, Come (verse 1) Number 92 While we are waiting, come; while we are waiting, come. Jesus, our Lord, Emmanuel, while we are waiting, come. PRAYERS FOR WHOLENESS AND HEALING Lauren Ramseur Generous God, you have given us so much. Give us one more thing. Give us thankful hearts because we know our hearts can be hard and cold. We often hold on when we should let go. We are clutching when we should be spending, hoarding when we should be generous, doubting when we should lean on faith. We are fearful instead of trusting in your everlasting care. Open our hands and our hearts to the bounty of your love, which cares for the flowers of the fields, the birds in the air, each child who toddles, every parent who worries, every adult who struggles. Loving God, you have given us so much. Give us again the assurance of your love and care, and fill us with grateful hearts and open hands. Amen. ASSURANCE OF GOD S LOVING FORGIVENESS Do not fear, says the Lord, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. God is doing a new thing; now it springs forth! By the grace of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God. *SONG OF THANKSGIVING Christ Is Coming! (verse 1) Number 360 (tune: Lauda Anima) Christ is coming! Let creation from its groans and labor cease; let the glorious proclamation hope restore and faith increase: Christ is coming! Christ is coming! Come, O blessed Prince of Peace. PROCLAIMING GOD S WORD CHILDREN S CONVERSATION Vicki Callear Young children may leave for Godly Play with Doug Ramseur following the conversation. READING FROM THE EPISTLES 1 Corinthians 3: 10-17 The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! THE WORD IN MUSIC Chancel Choir Sing Now with Great Rejoicing J. S. Bach GOSPEL READING John 14:15-21 MESSAGE The Gospel of our Lord. Praise be to you, O Christ! Well, We Declare!

SCRIPTURE READING READING FROM THE EPISTLES: 1 Corinthians 3: 10-17 10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid; that foundation is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw 13 the work of each builder will become visible, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done. 14 If what has been built on the foundation survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If the work is burned up, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire. 16 Do you not know that you are God s temple and that God s Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God s temple, God will destroy that person. For God s temple is holy, and you are that temple. GOSPEL READING: Luke 1:6-14, 18-20 15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. 17 This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphaned; I am coming to you. 19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 They who have my commandments and keep them are those who love me; and those who love me will be loved by my Father, and I will love them and reveal myself to them. 9:00 p.m. Festive Christmas Celebration SERVICE OF DEDICATION We are called by God to be the church of Jesus Christ, a sign in the world today of what God intends for all humankind. The great ends of the Church are the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind; the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God; the maintenance of divine worship; the preservation of the truth; the promotion of social righteousness; and the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world. Let us pray: God of the universe, the heavens contain your glory. Yet you have come to be with us in Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit you are present with us now in the risen Christ. We dedicate our Welcome Corridor to your honor and glory. We thank you for all the gifts represented by this renovation: the planning and coordinating, the craft of many hands, the contributions of money and materials, the labor, time and commitment. As you have led us in the past, we commit ourselves to the future of your promise. Grant us your encouragement in the work of ministry, your perseverance in our struggles, and your challenge in our complacency. Give us such trust in your abiding Holy Spirit that we may find joy and peace in our common life, strength and courage to live in the world for your reign, and hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Almighty God, we pray for your blessing on the Church in this place. Here may the faithful find salvation and the careless be awakened; may the doubting find faith and the anxious be encouraged; may the tempted find help and the sorrowful comfort; may the weary find rest and the strong be renewed; may the aged find consolation and the young be inspired. Empower and inspire each of us to be your hands, your heart, your voice as disciples of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. CHRIST IS MADE THE SURE FOUNDATION Christ is made the sure foundation, Christ the head and cornerstone, chosen of the Lord and precious, binding all the church in one; holy Zion s help forever, and our confidence alone. To this temple, where we call you, come, O Lord of hosts, and stay; come, with all your loving-kindness; hear your people as we pray, and your fullest benediction shed within these walls today. Here bestow on all your servants what they seek from you to gain; what they gain from you, forever with the blessed to retain; and hereafter in your glory evermore with you to reign. Laud and honor to the Father, laud and honor to the Son, laud and honor to the Spirit, ever three and ever one: one in might and one in glory while unending ages run!
