Dr. Larry W. Leonard District Superintendent lwleonard@midsouthnaz.org 2015 HALFTIME As September rolls around so do other things which attract our attention. There is the new school year, (actually it began for most in August) which brings some stability to church attendance. Football at all levels has begun. But in the world of the MidSouth District Church of the Nazarene, it is half time. Yes, we are now at the half way mark of our 2015-2016 year. What usually happens at a halftime for a football team? Three words pretty well sum up a halftime talk: Analysis of the first half; Adjustments aimed at correcting that which didn t work; and Action to make the second half successful and bring about a win for the team. How has your church handled the first half of our year? Are you happy with the progress you have made toward your ultimate mission? I would like to remind all of our churches of the challenge I made at the district assembly: The first challenge is spiritual: That we will continually be being fully filled with the power of the Holy Spirit every day. That we will be true New Testament, first generation, followers of Jesus Christ in everything we do. That at least one new believer will be added to the body of Christ in each fellowship every week. That each disciple will grow daily in knowledge, trust, and fruitfulness for Jesus Christ. That each church set one night a week that will be dedicated to prayer. That each follower bear witness to the fruit of the Spirit in all circumstances of life. The second challenge is practical ministry: That we begin our year by each church setting goals for intentional growth in all the avenues of ministry. That every area of ministry be guided exclusively toward the goal of leading someone to Jesus Christ. That each church conduct a monthly accountability check list of our progress in these ministry goals. That each church make course corrections as necessary each month in order to reach our goals. That each church have a year-end celebration party to praise God for the completion of our goals. Third is statistical integrity in accountability: That each church celebrate an increase in Sunday morning worship attendance. That each church celebrate an increase in the numbers of people being discipled each week. That each church celebrate an increase in the number of people who joined their fellowship as members. That each church celebrate an increase in baptisms. That each church report the church s income every month without fail to the Funding the Mission website at fundingthemission.org. That every church take the first fruits of each week s tithes and offerings and place 14% aside as holy unto the Lord. As we enter the second half of our year I encourage you to analyze, adjust, and act. I am praying for you and trusting God for victory for the sake of His kingdom.

Rev. Jason Underwood NYI President jason@gccnaz.org The past few weeks the song Back to school, Back to school from the movie Billy Madison has been rolling around in my head. Our students all around the midstate are back in the classroom. In youth ministry this is the beginning of a new year for us as well. We have said goodbye to seniors that we have spent countless hours with, and we are welcoming a new group of students. We are truly excited about ministry with you in the year ahead. Together we have the chance to shape students to make a life long commitment to Christ. In all we do this year my prayer is that we lean on John 3:30 He must become greater; I must become less. MidSouth Momentum NYI: Nazarene Youth International Momentum, the newly merged Extravaganza/District TNT event, will be held on Trevecca s campus this year, November 13-15, 2015. This event serves as the district prelim to TNT at TNU in April, but it is so much more than that. It s an opportunity to share and grow in the gifts that God has given us and to worship and celebrate him through these gifts. There will be sports tournaments both for middle and high school students, worship services to begin and end our event, various local Nashville artists performing, a solid arts competition with fantastic judges that are looking to help students develop their gifts, an amazing after-party hosted by our friends at TNU and more! The cost of the event is $50 for students competing in the event, $25 for non-competing students, and $20 for adults. More detailed information along with registration forms will be available mid-september at midsouthnyi.org and by email from info@midsouthnyi.com. If you re not on our emailing list, go to midsouthnyi.org and click on "contact us. From there you ll be able to send us your information to be added. We can t wait for Momentum! See you in November!
