The Newsletter of Maury Baptist Association, Inc. Running the Race Volume 56, Issue 2 - January 2015 Moderator: Richard VanCleave, Treasurer: Suz Gagneur I grew up a country boy; but I do have a little culture in me (thanks to my wife mostly). She and I went to the Nashville symphony last week to listen to Mozart and Beethoven. The orchestra itself is great and I ve enjoyed listening to them before but this time, things were a bit different. As I surveyed the orchestra, most, if not all of its members were middle-age and above. (I guess you have to possess lots of experience to be a member of such an elite group.) But when the Mozart piece began, out walked the special guest violinist a 22 year old young lady. That in itself was a bit different but the main thing that caught my attention was the fact she was playing a Stradivarius violin from 1720 worth 5.5 million dollars! Needless to say, it was a special evening as we experienced her talent and the violin s quality coming together to play such beautiful music. Afterwards, I ve had time to reflect on how such an old musical instrument and such a young person came together in that setting. As unique and special as the Stradivarius violin is, it does nothing if not played. It is not intended to remain in a museum somewhere. In like manner, the young lady must have spent most of her life perfecting her talent but unless she was given permission to play that special instrument, her potential would have never been reached. You might say, They needed each other. As we journey through this world together, we need each other. We all need the Holy Spirit in our lives and everyone from the oldest generation to the youngest, needs to submit ourselves to His will in our lives. When we do, beautiful things can (and will) happen through us. This applies to churches as well; we all need each other. By the way, after the concert, I tried to talk my wife into walking a short distance to listen to some of the country music coming from Music Row on Broadway but she claimed it was too cold. Oh well, perhaps one day she ll experience that culture with me. A bit of MBA news As you know, our newest church under watch care is Blessed Hope; Pastor Joey Johnson. Our mission team believes it s vital this new church start succeed and with that in mind, the association will be giving them a small stipend each month to help with their expenses. We ll also help them with nonmonetary needs as well. Mission trip season is just around the corner! Talk with you soon about that. Blessings, Dale
