Throughout the week each Village took time and shared with the community reflections of Holy Week. As we prepare to celebrate the great feast of Easter, it is important to reflect on its true meaning and significance for us as Christians. It is much more than Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies and holidays. It is the high point of the Church s liturgical year, when Jesus rose from the dead. As followers of Jesus, we too, are challenged to rise from the crosses in our own lives and celebrate Easter through the special moments of joy we experience each day. This could be in our relationships with others, in the beauty of creation, by using our God given gifts, in making a difference through our words and actions or by living and celebrating our faith together. Easter, as much as it is about the resurrection story, it is also about enduring, lifelong and life transforming friendships. May the Easter break provide time for all families to grow in friendship and love as they share meals, stories and good times together. Fr Anthony Kain Recently Fr Anthony underwent significant surgery. Unfortunately during his recovery, he was readmitted and required further surgery. I spoke with Fr Anthony on Monday and he sends his Easter Blessing to everyone: Wishing you all a Very Holy Easter and may the Risen Christ bring joy, love and peace.
From the Principal We continue to keep Fr Anthony in our prayers as he continues to rest and recover. SPORTS DAY Sports Day was a huge success this year with many families and grandparents coming along to support the day. Children were magnificently dressed in their team colours with coloured ribbons, team badges as well as colourful tutus adorning many team members. The weather smiled on us and children participated in the many events before the warm weather set in. High jump challenged children while the sprints and relays highlighted endurance and resilience. There were activities to suit diverse skill sets and everyone appeared to enjoy the day. The chants were sung with great cheer and words of encouragement were heard throughout Sports Day. A huge thank you to the P&F and their team of helpers who assisted with the cake stall and barbeque. Thank you for this mammoth effort. Thank you to Katie, Josh, teachers and all our support staff who worked so hard to make the day a success for children. The great sense of collaboration ensured the success of this very exciting and community filled Sports Day. Thank you to the Sports Leaders who performed their tasks with skill and excellent sporting spirit. We are also grateful to Sacred Heart College for the use of their magnificent facilities and oval. In the end everyone participated and did their best and the House winner for the 2018 Sports Day was Dominic House. From the APRIM From the APRIM LAP volunteers Asking for anyone willing to work with students on a weekly basis, playing games, puzzles etc. Please contact, Karla Sparapani ksparapani@olog.catholic.edu.au Holy Week & Easter Easter is not just a weekend, it s a whole season! It begins on Easter Sunday and runs through to Pentecost, seven weeks in duration. The colour gold or white is used during this time to signify the glory of the Lord and our joy in the resurrection. It is a time when we, as a Church, focus on the promises of Jesus to save us from evil and be with us in our lives. Throughout the week we have focused on as a school on Holy Week. Palm Sunday Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week. It reminds Christians of the journey Jesus made into Jerusalem, on a donkey, to celebrate the Jewish festival of Passover (Pesach). Jesus chose a donkey to show that he had come in peace. Many people welcomed Jesus by shouting, waving palm branches and throwing branches down in the path of the donkey. They hoped that Jesus was the Saviour who the Bible had promised. Palm Sunday is both a happy and sad day. Christians are happy because they are singing praises to Jesus but also sad because they know Jesus died less than a week after his arrival in Jerusalem. Maundy Thursday On the night before his death Jesus had a final meal with his friends. Before this festival meal for Passover, Jesus surprised his friends by washing the feet of every person, a task that was normally done by a servant. He wanted to show his followers that they should love one another in humble ways. Later in the meal, which is known to Christians as 'The Last Supper', Jesus passed round bread and wine. He said the bread was his body broken for them and the wine was his blood shed for them. He was telling them that he was going to die and that when they share bread and wine they should remember him. Christians share bread and wine at their church services all year round, but it is even more special on Maundy Thursday. Jesus also told his friends that they should love one another. It was later on this night that Judas betrayed Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Good Friday On Good Friday Christians remember the day that Jesus was killed on the cross. He was nailed to a wooden cross by Roman soldiers. This is the reason why the cross is an important sign for Christians today. There are crosses in churches and many Christians wear a cross on a chain. Short Easter prayer for children God made you and God made me, He made the world for us to see. God loves you and long ago, He sent his Son to tell us so. Jesus showed us many things, To love and share and dance and sing. To learn and pray, to help and care, He promised he'd always be there. He died but then came back to life, Let's celebrate for he's alive! Amen. Project Compassion Just a reminder that all Project Compassion boxes are needed to come back next week after the Easter long weekend.

WHAT A WONDERFUL COMMUNITY! On Friday March 23 rd the annual Our Lady of Grace Sports Day was held. The day was run at Sacred Heart College and the weather was absolutely brilliant! The Sport Captains worked hard in the lead up to the day. They wrote chants, sold badges, supported their teams during trials, made posters and best of all, enthusiastically lead their teams as the true leaders they are. Well done to Wil R, Harrison B, Lola O Connor, Isabella Romeo, Kyra Griffiths, Jacob Anderson, Imogen Penhall and Giaan Taylor. Classes were involved in 8 different Sports Day activities including long and short distance running, sack races, hurdles and shot put to name a few. The students remained active throughout the day, persevering through all the activities while keeping a smile on their faces! After all of the class groups completed their events, the annual House Relays took place. The learners (and their supporters) were so excited for the event which was evident by the cheering and encouraging from the crowd! The Parents and House Captain relay was amazing with parents training for weeks to prepare their bodies for the 70m dash! Thank you to all of the parents for supporting their children to make this such a fantastic event. Much preparation goes into such a day and a big thank you goes to the Parents and Friends Committee for making badges to sell in the led up to the event, the organizing and running of the cake stall and Sausage Sizzle on the day. The OLOG community is a definitely a special one! The 2018 Sports Day was won by DOMINIC and the students knew how to celebrate. Congratulations Dominic and we look forward to another fantastic Sports Day in years to come.
