June 2015 East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus, Inc. The Emmaus Walk Process, Purpose, and Discipleship The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with the prayerful discernment and invitation from a sponsor. The Emmaus leaders prayerfully consider each applicant and in God s time, the person is invited to attend a three-day experience of New Testament Christianity as a lifestyle. Through the formational process of accountable discipleship in small groups and participation in the Emmaus community, each participant s individual gifts and servant-leadership skills are developed for use in the local church and its mission. Participants are encouraged to find ways to live out their individual call to discipleship in their home, church, and community. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities and places of work. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others. Those who attend a walk are encouraged to expand their own spiritual lives through worship, study, and active participation in their local church and to become more active disciples of Christ in service to the world. Author: Upper Room Let us continue to pray for our Emmaus community so it may be used as an instrument of God to love, equip, and disciple others. Let us pray for those we have on our hearts to sponsor as pilgrims so they may grow in their faith and as leaders in their church. Prayer Vigil Attention Prayer Warriors: We covet your prayers for the Men's and Women's EOEE Walks to Emmaus #88 happening in May and June. If you would like to sign up to pray during the 72 hour Prayer Vigil, go to www.eoee.org, click on "Signup for the 72 Hour Prayer Vigils Here." From there, scroll down until you find the East Ohio Emmanuel Emmaus walks, then click on each of them to find a time to pray for the weekend. We thank God for your faithfulness!

Sponsoring Please begin in earnest to pray for pilgrim sponsorship for the upcoming EOEE Walks. Remember that 2 forms are required to be completed in their entirety and that a Pastor s signature must be on the pilgrim form for acceptance along with a deposit toward the $140 fee. These forms can be printed from our web site: www.eoee.org. Also pray for these pilgrims in their walk of faith realizing that the purpose of the Walk to Emmaus is to build leaders in their local church. Pray for sponsors as they are making a commitment to attend sponsor s hour, candlelight, closing and also gather agape for their pilgrim. Please note that completed applications need to be submitted in a timely fashion to: Debbie Houdeshell 886 Wagon Wheel Trail Copley, Ohio 44321 The lists fill quickly especially for the women, so please don t delay. Let s all pray for the mighty work that has already begun, and for the teams that are being equipped to serve on this walk weekend. Thank you in advance dear Brothers and Sisters. Upcoming Walk Dates Summer 2015 # 88 Men- Drew Suffron May 28- May 31 Women- Paula Kurre June 4- June 7 Fall 2015 # 89 Men- Brett Waller Oct 15- Oct 18 Women- Beckie Gilbreath Oct 22- Oct 25 Spring 2016 # 90 Men: Jerry Killian Mar 3-6 2016 Women: Sue Ward Mar 10-13 2016 Fall 2016 #91 Men: John Zona Oct. 2016 Women: Jean Steward Oct. 2016 NO GATHERINGS WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE MONTHS OF JUNE, OCTOBER, OR MARCH. All other Gatherings are the 3 rd Saturday of the month. The Kitchen team needs YOUR HELP!! As we get closer to the Summer walks, please remember that in order to make the weekends a success we need your help! Remember it takes all of us to make these walks be for THESE Pilgrims as great as our own walks. Of course, with that in mind we need to make doubly sure that we have the types of things that they need to snack on. Many of them have dietary needs that we need to be aware of. We are especially looking for items such as: Bags of Salty Snacks (chips, pretzels, etc.) Bags of Wrapped Candy (both regular and sugar-free) Fresh Fruits (apples, oranges, bananas, strawberries, black cherries, etc.) Fresh Veggies (celery, carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet peppers, etc.) Please bring Kitchen agape to the dining hall during the weekend. Be sure to mark it for the Kitchen. God Bless you and thank you for your help!

Agape General agape is given to the pilgrims in the 1st drop (Sat. 3:21 pm) and 2nd drop (Sat. 9:25 pm). Note that personal agape is only delivered in the 3rd drop (Sun. 11:32 am). Please drop off your agape at the agape room 1 hour before the time of each drop to give us time to sort and deliver to the pilgrims. There will also be an agape box in the barn the night of the Candlelight Service for the 3rd drop. Remember any agape must fit the mail slots that we use to sort for each pilgrim. Please save any large gifts for the 4th Day journey home. The agape room will be closed at 9 pm each evening. Please respect the teams privacy as they rest and prepare to serve the pilgrims the next day. The community Agape box is in need of some supplies. If you feel led, please consider donating some cards appropriate for written agape. AGAPE What is agape? Webster's Dictionary defines it as: 1) the love of God or Christ for humankind; 2) the love of Christians for other persons corresponding to the love of God for humankind; 3) unselfish love of one person for another; or 4) having the mouth open because of wonder, surprise, or shock. We have all experienced Agape love as part of The Walk to Emmaus; and probably have our own definition of what Agape means to us. Throughout the weekend others express many expressions of agape love through selfless acts of kindness. In addition to the personal and general notes and cards written to pilgrims and team members, agape love can be expressed through prayers (signing up for the 72-hour Prayer Vigil); musical entertainment (volunteering to share your talents on Saturday evening, at a gathering or other Emmaus function); delicious food and snacks (brought to Camp Wanake for the snack table); and table decorations (providing table agape for meals in the dining hall). When deciding how many pieces of agape to make for a weekend, total up the number of team members and pilgrims. As a general rule; 60-65 pieces are needed for a Men's Weekend and 70-75 for a Women's weekend. Making agape is a great way to stay connected to the Walks and community, and can be an added fun activity for reunion groups. Sharing the responsibility with others is not only cost effective but makes making agape easier and more fun! General Agape (items that are placed in the white paper lunch size bags and delivered in the first and second agape drops) can be placed in the agape boxes in the Agape Room at Moody Retreat Center or given to the agape team before the weekend begins. Snack foods and table agape can be taken to the kitchen and given to a kitchen team member. Don't forget, agape is to be kept secret until delivered in the agape drops or placed on the tables so be discrete when bringing it to camp so as not to spoil the surprise! Many Fourth Day members have expressed a desire to participate in general and table agape, but often have difficulty thinking of creative ideas. So, EOEE has gathered ideas from other communities and added a list of suggestions on its Home Page (CHECK IT OUT!). In addition, pictures, instructions and ideas can be gathered by surfing the World Wide Web or by visiting sites like PINTEREST.com. Simply type the words "Walk to Emmaus Agape" or "Chrysalis Agape" and see what comes up. We hope this information explains how agape love can be shared with pilgrims and teams on the weekends, as well as stirs your creative side. We can't wait to see your expressions of agape love showered upon pilgrims and team during the weekends. DECOLORES! Please see attach document for Agape ideas.
