THE ORDER FOR THE WORSHIP OF GOD The Lord s Day, February 24, 2019, 10:20 a.m. WE PREPARE TO WORSHIP GOD The Gathering Praise 705 I Know Whom I Have Believed Welcome and Announcements The Prayer of Preparation GRANT UNTO US, O God, the fullness of your promises. Where we have been weak, grant us your strength; where we have been confused, grant us your guidance; where we have been distraught, grant us your comfort; where we have been dead, grant us your life. Apart from you, O Lord, we are nothing, in and with you we can do all things. Amen. WE WORSHIP GOD The Votum and Salutation Psalm 124:8; I Corinthians 1:3 The Call to Worship Psalm 150 The Gloria Patri (GREATOREX) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen. The Prayer of Praise and Adoration The Praise Hymn 21 Sing Praise to the Lord! The Scriptural Confession of Faith Philippians 2:5-11 We believe that we must have the same attitude in ourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so
that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. The Law of God Luke 18:18-27 The Corporate Confession of Sin Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from Thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our hearts. We have offended against Thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done. And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But Thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare those, O God, who confess their sins. Restore those who are penitent; according to Thy promise declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O merciful Father, for His sake; that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and sober life to the glory of Thy holy name. Amen. The Assurance of Pardon I John 2:1,2 The Thanksgiving Hymn 521 My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less WE HEAR GOD S WORD PROCLAIMED The Scripture Lesson Genesis 15:1-6 (pew Bible pg. 10, Old Testament) The Prayer for Illumination The Sermon Father Abraham: Weak Faith Can Lay Hold on a Strong Savior The Prayer of Dedication WE RESPOND TO GOD S WORD The Hymn of Response 94 How Firm a Foundation
The Prayers of Petition and The Lord s Prayer Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. The Presentation of Tithes and Offerings The Offertory Hymn 83 O Praise the Lord, for He Is Good The Offertory Prayer The Doxology (OLD HUNDREDTH, L.M.) Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heav nly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. The Benediction The Response Now Blessed Be the Lord Our God Psalm 72:18; Scottish Psalter 1650; Tune: DUNDEE, C.M. Now blessed be the Lord our God, the God of Israel, for He alone does wondrous works, in glory that excel. And blessed be His glorious Name to all eternity; The whole earth let His glory fill. Amen, so let it be. ( If you are able, please stand) BAPC uses the New American Standard Bible, Copyright The Lockman Foundation, www.lockman.org. Announcements: Sunday, February 24, 2019 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome! May God in His mercy turn our hearts to Himself that we may worship Him in spirit and in truth. Welcome visitors! We are delighted to have you join us for worship today. We are a congregation of the PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN AMERICA MERICA, a Bible-believing, confessional, and evangelical Reformed denomination. As a church, we strive to be, faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ. We invite you to learn more about our faith and our mission. Hearing Assistance: If you would like a device to help with hearing the worship service, please see Elder Dave Forslund. Our special mission emphasis for February has been Sangre de Cristo Seminary. We will receive an offering for this ministry today. If you wish to participate financially in their work, please mark your gift in an appropriate manner and place it in the offering. Thank you. The Lord willing, the sacrament of the Lord s Supper will be administered, DV, next Sunday, March 3rd. Please begin now to prepare your heart to come rightly to the Lord s Table. Consider the wise teaching of the Westminster Shorter Catechism: Q. 97: What is the right way to receive the Lord s Supper? A.: The right way to receive the Lord s Supper is to examine whether we discern the Lord s body, whether our faith feeds on Him, and whether we have repentance, love, and a new obedience so that we may not come in the wrong way and eat and drink judgment on ourselves. The Westminster Shorter Catechism in Modern English Reformed Theological Seminary, 1986 Note: A new edition of the church directory has been published. Please review your information to make sure it is correct. If there are changes, contact the church office. Thank you.
