Page Four Pope John XXIII Church, Liverpool, New York June 24, 2018 Safe Environment for Our Children Did you know students from Pre-K to Grade 12 in our Catholic Schools and Faith Formation programs receive Safe Environment training every year as required by the diocesan Child and Youth Protection Policy? Our Safe Environment training addresses each grade level with age appropriate curriculum to help our children and youth with knowledge that can help keep themselves safe while providing this instruction that is fully consistent with the moral teachings of the Catholic Church. Last year, over 16, 000 students received training throughout the diocese. Parents are reminded that children must always be accompanied by an adult if they leave the worship area during Mass. Please be aware this is a public building and this policy is enforced for the safety of the children. Thank You! Reporting Suspected Abuse Takes Courage When an adult in the faith community has reason to suspect that a child, young person or vulnerable adult is being or has been abused, he or she has a moral (and often a legal) responsibility to report those suspicions to civil authorities. Reporting suspected abuse takes courage. However, adults who take a stand for children and make the call are often responsible for saving a child from terrible torment. To report known or suspected neglect or abuse, call the civil authorities or the New York State Child Abuse Hotline: 1-800 - 342-3720 (TDD/TTY: 1-800 - 638-5163). Contact Jacqueline Bressette, Director of Safe Environment and Victim Assistance at 315-470 - 1465 for any assistance.
