Third Sunday of Easter Page 2 Third Sunday of Easter May 8, 2011 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. Acts 2:28 GOD S PLAN Saint Peter speaks to us twice today. In the first reading, we hear an excerpt from his sermon on Pentecost; in the second, part of his first letter. Once a frightened, uneducated fisherman who often said just the wrong thing, now Peter is speaking what he knows to be true. Everything Jesus had said now makes sense. His death and rising were all part of God s plan, and our faith and hope can be centered on God. Today s Gospel tells the story of Jesus walk to Emmaus with two of the disciples. Frightened, sad, and confused, the two of them don t recognize Jesus, who tells them what we heard Peter say above: All this had to happen as part of God s plan. In the end, these disciples recognize Jesus as we are to recognize him in the breaking of the bread. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. Third Sunday of Easter Page 4 GOOD EXAMPLE Christ said to his followers at the Last Supper, I leave you an example to follow. Our dads were challenged to be our fathers on earth. Our moms were entrusted with us from the moment of our conception, throughout our earthly lives and forever. Parenthood is a partnership of a husband and wife, who in turn partner with the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. Example is so important. Lately I came across the following poem and today I dedicate it to all our mothers who are our master teachers in building God s kingdom. When You Thought I Wasn t Looking When you thought I wasn t looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, And I wanted to paint another one. When you thought I wasn t looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, And I thought it was good to be kind to animals. When you thought I wasn t looking, I saw you make my favorite cake just for me, And I knew that the little things are special things. When you thought I wasn t looking, I felt you kiss me good night, And I felt loved. When you thought I wasn t looking, I saw tears come from your eyes, And I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it s all right to cry. When you thought I wasn t looking, I saw that you cared, And I wanted to be everything that I could be. When you thought I wasn t looking, I heard you say a prayer, And I believed there is a God I could always talk to. When you thought I wasn t looking, I looked.... And wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw, When you thought I wasn t looking. Happy Mother s Day! God Bless, Fr. Mike *********************************************************************************** Giggles: Little Johnny was watching his grandmother getting ready for the airport, there s no need to hurry grandma. Daddy put the clock an hour ahead early this morning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our generation never got a break. When we were young we were told to respect our elders. Now that we are older, they tell us to listen to the youth of our country. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I bought a book lately on How to improve your memory. When I had finished reading it, I realized I read it last year.
