St. Rose of Lima Catholic School strosecardinals.org Excellence Through Jesus Since 1889 Weekly Newsletter February 9, 2018 It s definitely still winter and the short spans of sunshine are appreciated! Whether sunshine or cold, we need something to help get our school family well. This week was challenging with an average of 17 students absent daily along with 5-6 teachers and staff, majority confirmed flu cases. Please take precautions and remind students it s critical to wash hands multiple times during the day along hand gel; wash all jackets, caps, lunch boxes and anything fabric that comes back and forth to school. Teachers and staff are doing their part wiping desks, chairs, doorknobs, etc. daily. Thank you again for helping make Catholic Schools Week 2018 a huge success! We have many great pictures and appreciate your feedback for next year. Next week remember to treat all those special people with some of our World s Finest Chocolate for Valentine s Day! Turn all monies in Monday, February 19 and thank you for making this sale a huge success! Put your dancing shoes on and come Rock-n-Roll for the Red & White at Swiss Alps tomorrow to the music of the Triumphs! It s a guaranteed fun evening! Several students in grades 1-8 participated in the Sacred Heart Academic meet yesterday and did well. We are proud of you! Official results will be in next week s newsletter. Thank you parents of participating meet students for helping provide this opportunity. It s a great experience and practice for PSIA which is next Saturday, February 17. Please contact the office if you can help work a shift for one of the contests. We have several openings to fill. What a perfect time to begin the Season of Lent on St. Valentine s Day! St. Valentine is the Patron Saint of affianced couples, bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, happy marriages, love, plague, travelers, and young people. He is represented in pictures with birds and roses and his feast day is celebrated on February 14. We can be thankful for and celebrate the people we love and cherish in our lives. Christ showed us the example of perfect love and we know love today because He first loved us. May we all Love Extravagantly. 1 Corinthians 13:13 Check out all the scriptures that talk about love and God s love for us. Maybe challenge yourself to reflect on one verse daily. Here s a couple to start with. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 1 John 4:11 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because He first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19 A Lenten Prayer Dear Lord, during this holy season of Lent, remind us these are the days of salvation. Help us to make it through our difficulties, and the trials and temptations of everyday life. Help keep us from evil and help us avoid the pain and hurt sin causes. Remind us to be prayerful and to reflect upon the great sacrifice Jesus made for each one of us. Amen. Have a great weekend! Take Care and God Bless! --Rosanne Gallia Monday: Distinguished Alumni Award Dinner, HSA Mtg 6:30 Tuesday: 5 & 8 ACRE Testing, Valentine Parties 2:45 Wednesday: Ash Wednesday, Mass 2, Lent begins Thursday: Friday: Stations of the Cross 8:10 Catholic Schools: F.I.R.S.T.
