CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CHURCH 1 Concordia is the Church where the love of Christ is shared through our hearts, our hands, and our voices. SIXTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPHIPHANY February 17, 2019 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 a.m. Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! -Psalm 98:1a AS WE GATHER (prepared by Jim Gann) What can we do to gain righteousness before God? What about being good? You know, do only things that don t break God s Law. Think you could do that, perfectly? What about good works? Surely, that would be the right thing to do, wouldn t it? What about love, such as love your neighbor or your enemies as you love yourself? Would that work? Actually, none of the above will help us at all. According to Paul s epistle to the church in Philippi, faith in Christ is the only way for us to gain righteousness. So, what about love and good works? Those are the things we should do as right and proper responses to Gods love and grace for us. PRELUDE ANNOUNCEMENTS (p. 17-19) CALL TO WORSHIP and PASSING OF THE PEACE RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please stand and face the Cross) OPENING HYMN #477 Alleluia, Alleluia! Hearts to Heaven

+ DIVINE SERVICE SETTING THREE + Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord, People: who made heaven and earth. Pastor: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, People: and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. 2 CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS (Silence for reflection on God s Word and for self-examination.) Pastor: Almighty God, merciful Father, People: We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We have done things that we should not have done, and we have failed to do the things we should have done. We have been impatient. We have grumbled. We have used coarse language and have taken Your name in vain. We have focused too much on our own gain and failed to look out for our neighbor. Father, forgive us, renew us, and lead us so that we may have salt in ourselves and be a pleasing flavor to You and to the world. Amen. Pastor: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all you sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

PSALMODY (Psalm 1) Pastor: Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; People: but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. Pastor: He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. People: The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Pastor: Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; People: for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. 3 (Please remain standing) KYRIE

GLORIA IN EXCELSIS 4

5 PRAYER OF THE DAY Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray together. All: O Lord, graciously hear the prayers of Your people that we who justly suffer the consequence of our sin may be mercifully delivered by Your goodness to the glory of Your name; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (Please be seated) OLD TESTAMENT READING Jeremiah 17:5 8 (Trust in man or in the Lord.) Reader: The Old Testament reading is from Jeremiah, chapter seventeen. (After the reading ) Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. EPISTLE READING 1 Corinthians 15:12 20 (The resurrection of the dead) Reader: The Epistle reading is from 1 Corinthians, chapter fifteen. (After the reading ) Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

(Please stand for the Alleluia Verse and the reading of the Gospel Lesson) 6 ALLELUIA HOLY GOSPEL Luke 6:17 26 (Jesus ministers to a great multitude). Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the sixth chapter. (The Gospel is read) Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. NICENE CREED All: We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day he rose

again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, we acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and we look for the resurrection of the dead and the life + of the world to come. Amen. (Please be seated) 7 We invite the children forward as we sing: LSB #588, vs. 1&2 Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; they are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so. Jesus loves me! He who died, heavens gates to open wide. He has washed away my sin, Lets His little child come in. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
