CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CHURCH 1 FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER THE EPHIPHANY February 10, 2019 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 a.m. Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! -Psalm 98:1a AS WE GATHER (prepared by Jim Gann) Each time we approach the altar to take Communion, we must be prepared to sincerely repent of our sinful nature and sinful behavior. You see, the need for our Lord s Grace and forgiveness is great. That is why God reached out to us with love and gave us His Son, Jesus, whose atoning sacrifice made His Grace and our forgiveness possible. That same Grace washes us clean by the waters of Baptism and God s Word. It also makes peace for us with God, restores our broken relationships, and puts us right with one another. Therefore, be prepared to repent, but also be prepared to rejoice and give thanks for the gift of God s Grace. PRELUDE ANNOUNCEMENTS (p. 17-18) CALL TO WORSHIP and PASSING OF THE PEACE RINGING OF THE BELLS (Please stand and face the Cross) OPENING HYMN #906 O Day of Rest and Gladness

+ DIVINE SERVICE SETTING THREE + Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen. Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord, People: who made heaven and earth. Pastor: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, People: and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. 2 CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS (Silence for reflection on God s Word and for self-examination.) Pastor: Almighty God, merciful Father, We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We have done things that we should not have done, and we have failed to do the things we should have done. We have been impatient. We have grumbled. We have used coarse language and have taken Your name in vain. We have focused too much on our own gain and failed to look out for our neighbor. Father, forgive us, renew us, and lead us so that we may have salt in ourselves and be a pleasing flavor to You and to the world. Amen. People: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all you sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.

PSALMODY (Psalm 138) Pastor: I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing Your praise. People: I bow down toward Your holy temple and give thanks to your name for Your steadfast love and Your Faithfulness, for You have exalted above all things Your name and Your Word. Pastor: On the day I called, You answered me; my strength of soul You increased. People: All the kings of the earth shall give You thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of Your mouth, Pastor: and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord. People: For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar. Pastor: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You preserve my life; You stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and your right hand delivers me. People: The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of Your hands. (Please remain standing) KYRIE 3

5 PRAYER OF THE DAY Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Pastor: Let us pray together. All: O Lord, keep Your family the Church continually in the true faith that, relying on the hope of Your heavenly grace, we may ever be defended by Your mighty power; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. (Please be seated) OLD TESTAMENT READING Isaiah 6:1 8 (Isaiah s vision of the seraphim) Reader: The Old Testament reading is from Isaiah, chapter six. (After the reading ) Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God. EPISTLE READING 1 Corinthians 14:12b 20 (Excel in gifts that build up the Church.) Reader: The Epistle reading is from 1 Corinthians, chapter fourteen. (After the reading ) Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

(Please stand for the Alleluia Verse and the reading of the Gospel Lesson) 6 ALLELUIA HOLY GOSPEL Luke 5:1 11 (The miraculous catch of fish) Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the fifth chapter. (The Gospel is read) Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. APOSTLE'S CREED All: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right

hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. 7 I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life + everlasting. Amen. (Please be seated) We invite the children forward as we sing: LSB #740, vs. 1&2, I am Jesus little lamb, Ever glad at heart I am; For my Shepherd gently guides me, Knows my need and well provides me, Loves me ev ry day the same, Even calls me by my name. Day by day, at home, away, Jesus is my staff and stay. When I hunger, Jesus feeds me, Into pleasant pastures leads me; When I thirst, He bids me go Where the quiet waters flow. CHILDREN S MESSAGE SERMON HYMN #755 We Are All One in Mission (see next page) SERMON TITHES, PLEDGES, AND OFFERINGS [Please take a moment and sign the attendance book at the end of the pew] (Please stand for the Prayers)

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH Pastor: Having heard God s call to follow Jesus, let us bring before Him the needs and concerns of the church, the world, and ourselves. 8 For all who call on the name of Jesus throughout the world and for our own church body, that those who receive the call to preach do it well by the power of the Holy Spirit, that all who are called to ministry tasks fulfill our callings with humility and grace for the building up of the Body of Christ, that missionaries called to various places in the world, [including...], speak the Gospel with clarity and live in ways that draw people to following Christ, Holy God, People: in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Pastor: For nations throughout the world, that governments and leaders strive for peace among nations, that care for the poor and justice for the oppressed never be neglected or forgotten, that those who serve in our armed forces fulfill their responsibilities well, that those victimized by warfare and terrorism find comfort and hope in Christ, that we and our enemies become reconciled, Holy God, People: in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Pastor: For the needs of our local community, that businesses flourish for the good of all, that workers do their work with a sense of vocation, giving glory to God, that those with difficult jobs be assured that their labor is not in vain and that God is with them, that corruption and injustice decrease, and integrity, honesty, and responsibility increase, Holy God, People: in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Pastor: For the needs of our church community, that those who are sick, [especially...], experience healing according to God s will, that those with chronic or terminal diseases find comfort and hope in God s promise never to leave them nor forsake them, that our elders and council lead us not only to consider our own needs, but also the needs of others, that the households of our congregation be places of forgiveness, peace, and genuine love, that we who are gathered here

today for worship hear our Lord s call and welcome newcomers in our midst, Holy God, People: in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Pastor: In thanksgiving for those who have gone before us in faith and now rest from the labors of this life, [including...], that as they heard the call to follow Jesus and received His forgiveness and mercy, so we, too, live in the mercy of Christ now and into all eternity, Holy God, People: in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Pastor: These, and all of our prayers that remain unspoken or are too deep for words, we commend to You, Holy God, in trust that You hear us, You love us, and You desire our well-being; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. People: Amen. 9 + SERVICE OF THE SACRAMENT + PREFACE Pastor: The Lord be with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

PROPER PREFACE Pastor: It is truly good, right, and salutary, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, Holy Father, almighty everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Who on this day overcame death and the grave and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your glorious Name, evermore praising You and singing SANCTUS 10

THE WORDS OF OUR LORD Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. 11 PROCLAMATION OF CHRIST Pastor: As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord's death until He comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26 People: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20 Pastor: Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: LORD S PRAYER Pastor: Lord, remember us in our kingdom and teach us to pray: All: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. PAX DOMINI Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always.
