They are: Paul Barko, Earl Boggler, Jim Cloughessy, Bob Foster, Mike Kincaid, Tom Krucek, Lexy Larez, Dcn Wayland Moncrief, John Ravetto, Ben Taylor, Cher Vang, Robert Hughes, Jerry Koenig, Cong vantong and Tom Warner. Paul and Helen Barko were also recognized as our Family of the Year. Let me welcome the new Officers, who I know will be a big help this year. PAST Last year we achieved many of our goals. The yearly programs: People with Intellectual Disabilities, Religious Service Vocational Program, Keep Christ in Christmas, and the St Germaine Fiesta did very well. Our dinners and the KOC Raffle did not do as well, but we are in the black. We commissioned four new 3rd Degree Members, Larry Battin, Jim Cloughessy, Lexy Larez, and Bill Pierce, and two new 4th Degree Members, Deacon Dale Avery and Cong vantong. Unfortunately, we didn t have any new 1st Degree recruits, which we would all CHARITY ~ UNITY ~ FRATERNITY
Page 2 Volume 1, Issue 1 Grand Knight s Message Cont d PRESENT Our current Officers have some new agendas: Chaplain s Message Rev. Daniel Vollmer Chancellor Bob Foster is instituting a Newsletter for our Council. This is the first issue. He will give us more information as we go along. Feel free to give him ideas, input and support. Deputy GK Lexy Larez is enhancing our Member list with birth dates, installation dates, spouses names, and past vocations. Advocate Tom Warner will correlate and enter this information into an Excel program so we can review the information at our convenience. Financial Secretary Earl Boggler has been doing yeoman work, presenting Tom and Lexy with a tremendous amount of information. This enhanced list has been a long time coming. Cher Vang, our Recorder, is still managing the road cleanups, and also works with past Deputy GK Ben Taylor on all of our family functions. Treasurer Doug Becker will remain as our liaison with the Fourth Degree. Last but not least, our spiritual director, Deacon Wayland, has put out the call that our Council should go back to the basics Fr. McGivney had set: church, family, widows, children, the sick, the infirm, and the immobile. Further, I will create a Yearly Calendar of Events to keep everyone up to date. Fr. Dan is currently on vacation, so the following is extracted from the Golden Anniversary of the Knights of Columbus in 1932. These words are still applicable to today. An enlightened and zealous laity is the glory of the Christian Church. The most luminous periods of the church s history have been epochs conspicuous for laymen who have vindicated the cause of Christianity by their elegance and their writing, as well as the sanctity of their lives. If I may single out one society without prejudice to the merits of the others, I will name in a particular manner that splendid organization, the Knights of Columbus. They are our joy and crown. They are the glory of Jerusalem. They are the joy of Israel; they are the honor of our people. Wherever calumny raises its foul head, they are ever ready, like true knights, to smite the enemy. Whenever an appeal is made in the cause of religion or charity, they are always foremost in lending a helping hand. James Cardinal Gibbons We will be very busy doing our regular business, but will add all that is necessary to help our Parish family when needed. With God s help, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will do well. Again, I thank you all for your support. Let s have a great year!! Vivat Jesus,
Volume 1, Issue 1 The month of August is dedicated to The Immaculate Heart of Mary. The entire month falls within the liturgical season of Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. It is used in the offices and Masses of Ordinary Time. The last portion of the liturgical year represents the time of our pilgrimage to heaven during which we hope for reward.) Why? Because there are times when the quality of your future - and the future of those you love the most - may be dependent on how you respond to critical financial information. Worthy Council members, please know I'm available to schedule appointments. I'm usually in Northern AZ at least twice a month and sometimes more often if needed. I look forward to seeing you at a Council meeting soon or give me a call. Watch for upcoming articles here. God Bless, Tom CHARITY ~ UNITY ~ FRATERNITY

Page 6 Volume 1, Issue 1 Adopt a Highway Many hands make light work! Just a little bit of history on our participation in this community service our first road clean-up was on May 17, 2014 under Grand Knight, Paul Barko. The Council had talked about adopting a road for some time before this so I volunteered to head this program and found the stretch of road that we adopt today. I applied to the town of Prescott Valley and they gave us the rights to clean it. We usually clean the road two or three times a year depending on schedules and condition of the road. We always extend an invitation to help with the clean up to family members and friends of fellow Knights. Anyone under age of 18 is welcome too, just need to sign a waiver with parent's signature. Thanks to all to participated in this month s road clean up on Saturday, July 30th. Brother Cher Vang K N I G H T S IN A C T I O N
