First Presbyterian Church of Ada, Oklahoma Mission: To Witness to God in the World October 28 th, 2018
Service for the Lord s Day First Presbyterian Church Ada, Oklahoma October 28 th, 2018 23 rd Sunday after Pentecost 10:45 AM We Gather Gathering Music #263 All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name! Welcome and Announcements 1 Alan Marshall Passing of the Peace Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts. To this we were called as members of a single body. The peace of Christ be with you all. And also with you! (Let us now share in a time of passing the peace.) Lighting of the Christ Candles Acolytes and Prelude Prelude In G Minor Anon. English, 1708 from Mercurious Musicus Bonita Blackburn, Organist *Call to Worship, Responsive Psalm 84 (adapted) How lovely is your dwelling place, O God! Your dwelling place is all the earth; and the homes of faith; and the houses of faith; and wherever you choose to be. Our souls long, indeed they faint for the courts of the LORD; we sing for joy in the presence of the living God. And you in grace let even the sparrow find a home, at your churches, O LORD, our God and King. Happy are those who come to your house, ever singing your praise. Happy are those whose strength is in you, and whose hearts are open to fellowship in the assembly.
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than live in the tents of wickedness. For God bestows favor and honor. No good thing does the LORD withhold from those who walk uprightly. O God, happy is everyone who trusts in you. Come, let us worship. Let us worship, indeed. *Hymn 31 Let Us with a Gladsome Mind *Prayer of Confession, Unison Book of Common Worship Holy God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. But have mercy on your repentant children, who seek forgiveness and restoration in relationship with You... (continue in a time of personal confession) *Assurance of Pardon Book of Common Worship Friends, hear the good news: in God we are free from a past that we cannot change; and we are beckoned into a future in which we are changed; for there is grace upon the children of God to grow more and more into Christ s likeness and image. Be assured that in Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Amen! Anthem Glory to God George P. Thank you that by your equity they fall upon the just and the unjust, the righteous and the wicked. And we do not get to judge. But let us be found faithful and generous in your sight, for we too have become givers. We give to reach our neighbors with the good news, and to lift up the poor; we give to honor you; and we give for our growth in Christ. Bless our offerings of self to these things! Amen. We Bless Each Other On the Way *Hymn 716 God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending *Benediction, Spoken *Benediction, Sung May the Lord, mighty God, bless and keep you forever.
