We, as a Parish Family, are so glad you are here! As sharers of the one baptism & the one Spirit of the Risen Christ, we come together as the Parish Community of St. Mark the Evangelist to proclaim our identity as the People of God. The Eucharist is the center of our life and work together. Through the one bread, we become the one body of Christ, a living sacrifice of praise. In our worship of God, the Author of life and holiness, we proclaim our hope in the life of Christ s Resurrection; we open our hearts and minds to the Spirit of God dwelling in our midst. In our work, together, we seek to enable our children to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God; to accompany our young sons and daughters on their journeys of discovery toward adulthood; to deepen our faith commitment through prayer & study; to be present to one another in the joys and sufferings, the victories and struggles of life; to give witness to the Gospel of justice and compassion to our hurting world. We welcome to our parish family all who share our Catholic faith & traditions & our search for God in all things. -Parish Mission Statement From Website: www.stmarksnh.org Facebook: stmarkslondonderry Flocknote: flocknote.com/smecnh

From Your Parish Evangelist How are those New Year s resolutions doing? It s hard to believe that January is already drawing to a close! Kudos to you if you re staying steadfast to your aspirations for 2019! A perennial New Year intention of mine is to make the reading of Sacred Scripture a daily habit. I usually last until somewhere in February, then the Book of Numbers and other distractions tend to make me fall off. Yet, I still try my best to ensure that I am hearing and dwelling on the Word as often as possible. I am blessed enough to be able to attend Daily Mass, so I am able to ingest Scripture regularly, even if it is not a deliberate part of my resolution. In fact, reading the Daily Mass selections are a great way to take in copious amount of the Bible, but it s not linear (cover-to-cover), which can be a challenge for many of us. There are websites (such as usccb.org) and apps (I recommend ibreviary) that provide all the daily readings at your convenience! There are also plenty of great resources that give guided reading plans for the Bible. I really enjoy the Olive Tree Bible app on my computer and mobile devices - it has a variety of translations, commentaries, and reading plans available and it is very user-friendly. I use it for school, work, and prayer - it s an outstanding resource! I mention all this because our readings this weekend concern the Living Word of God and its imperative role in our lives. The selection from Nehemiah presents us with the reestablishment of worship in Jerusalem following the Babylonian Exile. The setting is the occasion of the Jewish New Year, what would later be known as Rosh Hashanah. Ezra the priest proclaimed aloud the scriptures, interpreted them, and the people assented with their amen (sound familiar?). We read that the people reacted with weeping and sadness! Having been in exile, they have been estranged from worship, and have now realized how far they have drifted away from the Law! But Nehemiah and Ezra console the people and tell them to take heart and celebrate - while the Word brings condemnation of their sinfulness, it also promises salvation! The Psalmist affirms this reality, as today we hear a myriad of adjectives describing God s Word: perfect, refreshing, trustworthy, clear, just and the list goes on. It is the Word that instructs us, leading us on the path to salvation. St. Paul tells us today about our unity amongst our diversity - it is the Living Word spoken to all of us, with our different identities, talents, struggles, and histories, that unite us in one mind and in one heart! Interestingly, today s Gospel from St. Luke is split between two chapters. The first paragraph is the introduction to Luke s Gospel, where he describes the purpose of his inspired writing: to describe the historical events of Jesus life, to transmit the Sacred Traditions, and to strengthen the faith and hope of all who will listen! The remainder of the Gospel tells of Our Lord s first action after leaving the desert where he was tempted by the devil. He went to church! He reads from the Prophet Isaiah, and explains its application - not in a blatant way - but in a way that requires the hearer to contemplate and affirm His words. Will they consent? Will they give their amen? Will we? As 2019 begins, join me in rediscovering the Eternal Word. Let s listen - let s seek out understanding - let s contemplate and proclaim. Let s take in the Living Word of God and cry out, Amen! Peace be with you. Brandon

Children are now required to actively participate for two years in Time Travelers faith formation program before they will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Time Travelers is for our children entering into grades 2-5 that starts immediately after the 9:30 mass. In the first year, (ideally 2nd grade) students will receive the sacrament of reconciliation.
